Cutting window seals, standard practice? 🤔
jconnors replied to Paul_TDI's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
this is standard practice-at least it is for me. i have been doing this for years. if done correctly, there will be no problem at all with the windows and would ever know it was done. and you, as the customer, will get a much better job with a less chance of a window peeling. it's one of those "you don't want to know what's in the sausage" things -
since i don't use the metric system, i had to change the cm to inches and found out that this means 1/5 of an inch. so in my opinion, you are being too picky. i would let that go any day of the week and would never fix that. got to remember it's aftermarket tint, not factory glass.

if you are doing great work, all our great reviews will make up for 1 bad review. now if you got a lot of bad reviews-then you are doing something wrong. -
Is this acceptable? 99 F250

i usually use some flat black vinyl and cover that button from the rear outside just enough to cover the button. -
Top window edge gap or shaved ?
jconnors replied to Ryan1's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
i always leave a slight gap. if someone wants it shaved, i charge extra. 30 years in the biz and no one complains about a nice, even, small gap. -
i've used my same film for years and have had 1 or 2 customers come back and show me something similar but on 99.9% of the cars no problem. not sure what caused it. i'm not sure if another film would make a difference

just got to learn to MacGyver stuff

perfectly normal depending on film

the boards are glass. been using the same ones for 20 years. surprisingly they are not too beat up yet with scratching. i've rented all my life. so nice to have my own place with no overhead. also, i made this place super clean and bright and epoxied the floor. i have always thought my work was good. but when you have a super clean environment, it makes all the difference.

well, got out of the commercial location and it's time to relax set up a little shop in the home garage, upped the prices, and only tint the easy stuff from now on notice, i put an 8' door in so i don't have to tint high vehicles(since i'm old)

Should i keep the key on while tinting?
jconnors replied to Zootiestintz's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
i put a maintenance charge on any full car i am doing as soon as it comes in-then you never have a worry -
anyone tint one of these yet? i love that suicide door look-looking forward to seeing one in person.

had the same thing for 2 fronts and the customer just kept arguing so i said to him " if you had a stereo installed and it broke, would you throw the stereo out and expect it to be covered under warranty?" conversation over -

Shop referring tint jobs to me, % cut for them?
jconnors replied to Joetint's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
i prefer the "you send work to me and i'll send work to you" method. that way no one is fighting over a $20 bill they think they are owed. also, if you are doing good work, people will find you -

with the guys i have trained in the past, i felt it took 2 years to really get it down-and that is with direction. not that you couldn't tint a window sooner-i just felt that it took that long to really be confident and adept at tinting a full car with no trouble. i have to add that i take things really slow when training. so don't give up. and remember, you can make money and not be perfect. turn some jobs out. do the best you can. and then fix your mistakes if they get noticed. when you fix your mistakes and you are not getting paid for your time, you learn quick. a young carpenter's work is not as good as a seasoned contractor, but he can still make money and learn. -
doesn't even make sense-what seal is broke that would cause a window motor not to work???

Perfect tint job with no dirt dots

i can see your point also and i understand it. this is the problem with our business: we are specialty and custom work but we do not get the respect because our work is not expensive enough. let me explain the way i look at it. let's say i get a new civic sedan in and i charge $300.00 for it and it takes 1.5 hrs. guy is unhappy because he finds a few dots and can't be reasoned with. i remove it, risk damaging defroster, spend more time than the application in removal, and give his money back. and i never did anything wrong-he's just an asshat and can't be satisfied. and i'm done and out all my money and time. down the road, jimmy's body shop does a paint job for $3500 and the same guy is unreasonable with him. what does he do? give back $3500 and remove the paint???? no. he tries to explain and then eventually tells the guy to go screw. we are not treated with respect because when it comes down to it, all we do is put big stickers on windows -

DO NOT GIVE MONEY BACK FOR A JOB DONE CORRECTLY! NEVER! you tell them to go get the tint done perfectly somewhere else. if they bring it back and YOU can't find a flaw, then give them the full price for the tint and the removal fee from the other shop. i guarantee you will not be paying any money out of pocket.
