CaliTINT got a reaction from smookee408@yahoo.com in Avery Dennison window films.
Following: Have had a rep stop by as well and dropped of samples months ago. Although we have not tried the sample as of yet. They are know for their wraps and other products and I did see their tint displays at SEMA. I think there are a few on here that use it.

As far as clarity/quality goes they will be on the same level.  Overall heat rejection is almost the same but AIR 80 will block more Infrared Heat...86% versus 68%.  The only difference in warranty is Autobahn films have a transferable warranty to the next owner of the vehicle.  Personally I wouldn't care if the next owner has a warranty or not, but it is a difference.  Lastly, Llumar AIR has been on the market for much longer.  I would not worry about the film as much as choosing the shop that is going to do a better job.  So go with the shop that has the better reputation and the one you feel more comfortable with.

CaliTINT reacted to sasktinter in Story about trying to get a job :)
Hello fellow tinters! Been lurking on this forum for a while but never posted or anything. The recent story made me want to share just so other people would read something while we are sitting at home doing almost nothing  So grab a cup of coffee!

I have been in vinyl industry for almost 12 years now & owned my own shop, which forward to 2018, i sold and moved onto other stuff. Been tinting since 2014 & PPF since 2016 and currently working at a small shop with just another guy who is also the owner of this shop. We are in small town of 45k people and service both, retail & wholesale customers & also dealers / body shops for insurance claims etc. We simply don't have the volume for me being busy every day, and we end up working sometimes 2-4 hour days, finish what we have and and i am free to do whatever i want, since i get paid by the job. If there is nothing going on, i can stay home and yes don't make any money but do other stuff. I do install commercial printed wraps on the side sometimes.

Overall my schedule is VERY flexible and i still end up making 50-60k per year. Thats Canadian dollars yet, not USD. Long story short, i decided maybe to give a try and find a busy shop where i can contribute and offer my skills & knowledge & be able to make more money. Used indeed to scroll through job offers, seen couple in Ontario that advertised 65-125k CAD salary \year....

Its a big US franchise that originated in states, but i will not name anyone. Got in contact with the owner, was told how busy they are, have to turn down the business because they can not accommodate more customers. I did explain how much work i can do & that i have 100% ability to work by myself from start to finish without any supervision. Overall, on average market i am able to tint 5 full cars per day, front PPF installs - partial hood, fenders, mirrors, door cups, head lights, bumper - 3 a day but it all depends on the vehicle of course. Just to give an example, when we have full day of work from 9-5, i do between $1200-$1600 worth of work myself.

Shop owner said it is very good that i can do that much work by myself. Said that they work monday-friday 8-6 & saturdays also. I was okay with that, not afraid to work if i can make decent living.
Had to fly over there for a week to see how chemistry would go, bought myself a ticket also. But due to Pandemic situation, flight was cancelled. Long story short, the owner sends me job offer that i have to sign:

    1) 50k Salary in Canadian dollars
    2) Minimum 44 hours work weeks, but if need to work any extra time, i must comply, but all extra time is covered by 50k salary
    3) No compete agreement
    4) If owner wants to add something for my duties, he always can
    5) Owner can terminate contract any time with 2 week notice.

Well, i was surprised to see the number and politely explained that i make same or more money right now working MUCH less and i would never drop it to move to another province where cost of living is considerably higher. I would end up with around $3200 CAD per month after taxes.  Again, explained the guy that with the rent eating $2000, its not enough. Told him i would need 5-6k per month to consider moving to another province with my family. Told him, if what he says is true that he has so much work, i can do 300-360k gross sales per year myself working for him 6 days a week, 10 hours per day.

Over all he did let me know that is way to much money to pay for a tinter\PPF\vinyl wrapper and raged & messaged me these things. Now i am just sitting and thinking, maybe i am a dumb & good tinter\ppf\vinyl wrapper is only worth $50k CAD \ year?

P.S. After he texted me all that, i did not even bother replying anything, had a good laugh and decided to share with others

Fried my first amp ever last week. It was on the 2018 with Harman Karden premium sound. Never had this problem on any BMW in 6 years. The technician that fixed it said he wasnt sure if it was a new design for the 18's or if it was HK. Either way, I recently bought a soak shield and will be tearing the trunk apart on these in the future. The amp is on the left side like most other cars. The cost of the repair was close to $2000. Sorry I couldnt post sooner..Hope nobody else has fried one!

A little back story, then on to the build.
My wife works in a hospital, and they are quickly running out of gear to do their job. I know it is happening everywhere, we are no exception. My mom has taken to making masks for my wife and her coworkers, but without a good way to sterilize them, it is a small solution. I decided to build a box that could be used to sterilize them after being washed, and this is what I came up with.
It is far from perfect, and there are so many things I would change if I did it again, but I needed a solution, and I needed it with what I had lying around (sans the UV-C light).
We all need to do what we can to help prevent the spread of the virus, and this was my way of helphttps://discord.software/ https://omegle.onl/ vshare

CaliTINT reacted to FilmTack in Sharing COVID-19 Advisory for Automotive Tinting Facilities
We hope that our window film tinters and loved ones are well amid the COVID-19 outbreak. FilmTack is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all our customers and staff. We have issued face masks to all our staff and increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfection in our premises.

In these challenging times, we have consulted professional medical personnel and prepared the following recommendations for our industry’s automotive tinting facilities:

Provision of face masks for frontline staff who are liaising with customers in person. Use of United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered disinfectants that are leather/fabric-safe, to disinfect the driver's seat of vehicles before and after tinting. https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2 Enforce simple visitor crowd-management by encouraging pre-bookings to avoid servicing queues. Ideally, customers should return to collect the vehicle at a later stipulated timing and not wait at the Rest-Area. Implement additional safety protocols in showrooms and tinting facilities: Contract-Tracing by registering visitors/customer’s name, contact number, arrival date and time. Provide hand-disinfectants for visitors and customers. Temperature-Taking. Regular disinfection of showroom, especially tint-meter and heat demonstration kits with EPA-registered disinfectants.  Disinfect the tinting bay after each vehicle is completed, with (low-cost) bleach solutions that are suitable for your facility’s floorings. Reduce or avoid off-site automotive tinting. If mobile tinting is demanded by customers, arrange for pick-up services by valets (with relevant insurance coverage). Facilities such as car dealerships with more tinters should consider staggering work shifts as part of internal Business Continuity Management (BCM).
The welfare of our staff and customers are of paramount importance to our industry. The above recommendations are by no means exhaustive. We can all, do our utmost to ensure business continues as usual and safe.

We wish you and your family the very best of health and continued well-being.
    Please be safe.

I have realy like it. Have no real complaints about the film at all. I went from Global to this. I use Xpel Ppf also so it made it nice to order from one place. I love Global, but it is not a brand customers can do much online research on. Xpel may not have a large presence in the tint world yet, but it has a solid trusted name in PPF  so I think that can carry over into tint when customers are looking a it from a brand stand point.

Sounds like you are way ahead of the curve, you should open up a shop and only do face shields. Then come back in a year or two for the requisite “I told you so” when you’re a millionaire.

So I decided to make a switch for 2020 for trying a new window film brand . I run a small tinting business out of my garage tinting 4-5 a week sometimes 7-8 . I wanted a affordable film with a good reputation at the same time . I made the switch from valiant to solarfx and absolutely love it . I love the marketing tools they have in place , the apparel they offer, and how many different lines of film they have to choose from . I’m currently using the ultrafx line and have zero complaints!
