What did you tint today?
Apex Tint replied to TintDude's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
Nice Roach. Any tips on doing accurate relief cuts on the corners? Those types of windows with deep frames are a struggle for me. -
Thanks Roach! Very helpful advice. I made a huge mistake when I bidded the job and didn't get exact measurements. I just know that I need *roughly* a 12x12 pattern for each pane. I'm attempting to pre cut everything, but it's not going well. I have a 36" roll with a box slitter set up at 12" and 24", giving me three 12" cuts. I have yet to get a good straight edge from my middle piece. I think I will pick up a cutting mat of some sort and a good T-Square - thanks for the tip. I've done a few of these before and I found it impossible to get perfect cuts... I'm assuming a few imperfections are to be expected?

Hi everyone, I have a few sets of these french doors with single panes to knock out this weekend. I'm not looking forward to it. Any tips? I sold ceramic for this job which i'm now regretting, due to how thick and difficult it is to work with. Any tips/tricks would be much appreciated. Thanks!

QDP vs. QDP Ceramic?
Apex Tint replied to hawthorne2014's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
Yes of course. Why do you think it’s twice the price? For one the TSER is 50% more (5% VLT). It comes down to blocking more heat. If that’s not a concern go with the basic QDP. -

Window tint question
Apex Tint replied to moveitsmike's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
Lol, I clearly haven’t seen the back of a 96 Prelude for a while. Last Prelude (not sure what year) I did was cake... But 96 must be “one of those”. OP - your mileage may vary! -
Window tint question
Apex Tint replied to moveitsmike's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
Prelude looks clean. Should be able to find a reputable tint shop that will get you dialed in with a good dyed film for $180 give or take. -
Tint World Private Brand Film

Last I heard Suntek was the film supplier for the Tint World chain. -
It’s been said that auto tinters never retire... they just do flat glass [emoji4]

Freak accident for sure! The razor had to fall perfect for it to do that kind of damage. Worst cut I’ve got from tinting is when I was playing around with shaving a frameless window. I thought it was a good idea to run my index finger across the top edge to see if my shave was below the beveled edge of the glass. Cut the s*** out of my finger - thing wouldn’t stop bleeding. Won’t make that mistake again!

Best Squeegee To Clean

Why are you trying to ditch the clear crush? That’s been my go to for a while. No complaints here. -
Same - been years since I tried it though.

Awesome work! I'm scared to ask how much that would cost me. -

Apex Tint replied to TintDude's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
Toyota day for me. 1985 Toyota pickup, actually kind of cool - 92k miles, interior was cherry. Came out pretty good. (if you stand 10ft away [emoji23]) Also did a ‘12 ish Tacoma. Double whammy on this one... Shell and and vent visors! -
I agree, a 10” roll makes life easy. When I reorder 5% I order the 30” roll and have them cut it 20/10 so I have a roll for side windows and a roll for visors. One edge will be better than the other so just check before laying out your film on the WS and put the cleaner edge on the bottom. I usually just grab a tape measure and pull measurements from the top molding to the bottom of the visor and make sure it’s the same on both sides.

Nice! Looks good. Haha, gotta love the truck’s name “Child Support” -
I like the blue shop towels but they’re pricey!

What tint job do you have on your personal car?
Apex Tint replied to 863JOE's topic in Window Tinting - General Discussion
Just did a front match on my 2019 Tundra with Global QDPC 18%. Not a perfect match, but Toyotas never are. Planning to do the shield in 70% QDPC, and I’ll probably wrap the rest of the truck in the 18% over the factory privacy glass. Just too busy tinting other people’s stuff! Also not looking forward to that back window lol. -

New windshield, time for tint. 50% vs 70%

No experience with the 80% here. But sounds like you can’t go wrong either way. -

I couldn’t agree more. I can definitely see the greenish/khaki color. As JH said, it doesn’t look too bad once installed. Undoubtedly not the best looking 70% out there, but I’m impressed with its performance and it has been a valuable film for me to keep in stock. -

I do all my shields in Global QDPC 70% - have this on my personal vehicles as well and I love it. Most of the time when I measure VLT after install it comes in around 61%. Lots of people think 70% is too light, but if you compare side by side the 70% does add a pretty good shade to the windshield.
