  1. A good shop should still be able to provide a quality install. You can expect a spec of contamination here or there, it's never going to be perfect, but it shouldn't be significant.
  2. According to 3M it's a "nano carbon" film. In the darker shades heat rejection isn't bad, CS20 has a TSER of 51% but in the lighter shades it's not really any better than a basic dyed film. I agree that there's a number of good options in the 70 and 80 % varieties that would be a good option.
  3. 2014 Cadillac CTS r&r finished with SolarFX ceramic 20 all around with Express ceramic 80 on the shield
  4. I swear like 75% of that generation beetle must've been painted that color. Last one I tinted:
  5. Highly unlikely that's what you're actually going to receive. Ebay, Amazon, and similar sites are full of counterfeit films. As far as 3M's patterns go they're hit or miss for fitment and the installers technique can have a massive impact on whether or not a given pattern will work. I generally don't bother wrapping edges but you're going to be looking for 1/8 to 1/4" wrapped around, dirt accumulation along an edge that's properly adhered and cured isn't going to cause the edge to lift. I'll also echo everyone else and tell you flat out you're going to be time and money ahead to find a good installer and pay to have it done professionally. Since you're not going to listen to that advice, good luck, you're going to need it. Just for curiosity's sake, what vehicle is it?
  6. From what I've seen that car and that particular film single piece rear window five hours doesn't seem bad to me.
  7. You may want to look into Xpel Armor for that application. It looks and feels like bed liner. I used it on the rockers of a dually pickup that wasn't getting enough protection out of regular PPF. It's held up well and was easier to install than I expected.
  8. Issues like this really need to be accompanied with pictures for anyone to really be able to help.
  9. Thanks for linking that other thread, I couldn't find it the other night when I was looking
  10. If I remember correctly @Sunbreakers has a killer mobile van setup with plotter.
  11. Leave them. The plastic they make those out of is super easy to break, especially if they've been on the vehicle and out in the sun for a while. Just roll your window down further to compensate when trimming or placing your film if you're having trouble.
  12. If you're 1099 you're not an employee but an outside contractor who is going to bill for services. There are companies out there that try to skirt labour laws and 1099 people that should legally be on the books as employees and when they get caught there are serious financial consequences. I didn't get the impression from the original post that this was going to be a 1099 type job, I wouldn't accept the terms of what's being offered either way. Federal labor laws can get tricky, I had an employer who had me on salary for the first two years I worked for them that got audited by the feds. My job description and scope of work didn't fit with what the feds qualify for a salary based position. I was subsequently switched to hourly and my employer had to give me back pay overtime for the prior two year period plus penalties(which doubled the payout on my end). Not sure what kind of additional penalties they owed the government but it was something of a fiasco for a couple weeks.
  13. Can't speak to the Dub IR but 3M Crystalline is solid in terms of performance and quality/longevity. Maybe @Stewy can chime in on the Dub film, pretty sure he uses it.
  14. If you're being paid hourly employers are legally required to pay overtime for anything over 40 hours in a work week.
  15. In my experience they all do to some degree, so yes. In my opinion they're not as bad as others and I like the select a size feature and they're cheaper than Bounty.
  16. Yep there's another thread on them here. As I recall you tack the center vertically and only shrink the corners basically. Here ya go
  17. Wife's ride is rocking SolarFX Ceramic 35 over factory in the rear and 20 up front. My daily is sporting some old faded purple shit that I haven't bothered to take off yet. It will eventually get some Xpel PrimeXR+ 35. The rear window is stupid easy in those. I just did one last week, I was expecting it to be a pain in the ass like the 4runner but it wasn't. The bottom seal pulls up and out to make installation a quick and easy affair.
