highplains got a reaction from Bham in Marks on inside of window after tint removal (NOT ADHESIVE!)
I'll chime in here that I've had very good luck using glass polish to remove haze like that. @Bhamis correct that any scratches you can catch your fingernail in are too deep to polish out but surface level haze clears up beautifully. Ive never had distortion issues with the glass I've polished and I get aggressive and use a 3" rotary air polisher with Rayon pads and Ceriglass compound. It's important to keep in mind that you can do damage if you stay in one spot and focus too much in one area. Here's a before and after on a Dodge Ram window I did

That's just the glass. I see low spots in the bevel of new glass like that all the time.

Absolutely partials are still done and carry a decent amount of market share. Like @Dano said your average commuter in a Honda, Hyundai, Chevy, etc. will shit themselves at a full front quote. There are always exceptions of course but the full front/full wrap market really doesn't seem to come into play until you move into the higher end market or enthusiast vehicles. That said it is a large market and what you're going to see advertised/featured on social media.

Of the software I've used Xpel has been the best.

If the slice wasn't so perfectly clean and on a brand new car I'd say you're right as I've seen it plenty of times as well. My guess is it was done while trimming the top edges

The one I've found that I like best is the Genesis, reminds me of the older Wagners before the Furno series came out, but with better air flow output. They're cheap on Amazon and I've had good luck with them holding up.

That's really more of a personal decision. That said, I personally would. That way you're going to maintain a uniform appearance all the way around which sounds like it's important to you and you still get the benefit of the additional UV and IR reduction.

XR70 is a very nice film that should accomplish what you're after.

Yeah, if it's that bad they should replace is asap, especially on the windshield. Him getting warrantied is not your problem. In my opinion.

I've had Crystalline 40 on my front driver and passenger glass for 7 years now, it's always parked outside sun-exposed, and it is holding up pretty dammed impressive here at the South side of Virginia (as if it were installed recently).

For your stated purpose almost any film from a quality manufacturer will accomplish what you're after which is blocking the UV that's going to fade/break down your interior materials. Crystalline is a great film that offers higher IR rejection, but it certainly comes at a premium. As far as the light refraction with the rear window goes it's unavoidable unless you want to remove your defroster grid, that said some films are better than others in that department but there are a number of variables that come into play.

I have no idea if they still offer it or not but as of a couple years ago (2018/19) Suntek still had an HP Bronze film in an 18% and a 40%. That'd be my best guess currently.

This is bothersome to me.  A shop that can't hand cut film and can only install plotter cut film   That's not a real tint shop.
Absolutely pitiful that they couldn't do that vehicle.  Definitely find a different shop.

My experience with those is that it's going to take a lot longer than you're thinking right now. Especially if it's used.

I usually won't take one in unless it's dropped for a few days. Pressure washer and compressed air for the channels if the glass can't be removed. Test clean an out of view area with a blade and/or #3 steel wool. Not all glass is created equal. You may end up needing to use a white scrubbie and a chizler if the glass is soft compound.

As for rates, I would bid this for whatever my day rate (full day of work) needs to be plus materials including waste if they want it immaculate. Most of these I've bid have passed, but im not going to sacrifice a full day of income to struggle with those filthy turds when I could be knocking out 3 to 4 clean retail cars.

If they just want it slapped on there and it takes half a day, then half a day rate it is. Either way the customers are usually shocked until I explain what's involved.

highplains got a reaction from TMDSMK in A question about Carbon tint
Carbon largely gets used as a marketing buzz word and as a result muddies the water causing confusion. There are very few true carbon films out there, most have just enough added during the dye process to justify use of the name. To answer your first question, yes most "carbon color stable" films are just a better quality dyed film. In the case of the two films you mentioned Suntek Carbon is a dyed film and CarbonXP, or as it's more commonly known CXP, is their ceramic film and will offer higher heat rejection.

It's less noticeable than the 50% but if you're looking for it you can generally tell it's there. I think @Dano's recommendation is spot on, go for a 70 or 80 ceramic and add the strip later if you feel you need it. I will say that if you didn't like the contrast on your visor strips previously you're not likely to like it going forward. The visual difference between a 15% and 5% strip isn't going to be that noticeable. If you wanted less contrast a 35% strip may be a better fit but the utility of one that light may be questionable, although it may be closer to the old blue shaded windshield strips so it may still be worthwhile.

I've been installing Xpel at my shop for about 3years now and this has not been my experience. When I switched to Xpel the robust scratch coat was one of the major factors I took into consideration. I switched from 3M and tested a number of other films including offerings from Eastman and Global. Global without a doubt has the best scratch coat out of any film I've tried with Xpel coming in second. Not sure what might be going on in your case but I do have to say I'm surprised, I'm heavy handed when installing and cleaning and the only time I've had problems was when my tools have needed addressing or my towel picked something abrasive up that I didn't notice until it was too late.
