This day and age we have armchair rookie experts calling out true to form experts with decades of experience. Case in point our own Dr. Fauci with a career spanning 50 yrs studying virus and bacteria getting trounced during the Covid crisis.

You're right, and it's not just curved glass that people can't understand!
As soon as the customer starts looking at their vehicle closer than they ever have before, they will begin to notice things they thought were perfect.
I had a Ram in a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday morning.
They're not so common here in Oz and they're super expensive to buy.
Anyway, after the bloke had gone over it over the weekend, I get a call from him and from the tone of his voice he seemed unhappy, so I told him to bring it in to show me what his issues were.
Apart from some water pockets that I had already explained would be around for a few days, he started to point out how the bailey channels on the doors didn't sit perfectly and how there was some scuffing on the black vinyl between the front and rear doors. He even pointed out how green the front doors looked compared to the privacy glass, even after having a 5% film installed, but that's a separate story isn't it!
This guy was going to town, and I was struggling to point out to him that these things, despite their inflated price tag, are not exactly built to Ferrari standards. I told him to check out other trucks at the dealership next time he's in for a service.
In the end I think he got it, and started asking about a couple of other vehicles getting tinted, but it really annoyed me that someone of my experience should be attacked by an amateur who thought he knew every square inch of his vehicle.

There has to be an easy way to explain distortion on a curved window that is directly in front of them. It’s more noticeable now because you’re staring at what you just bought. Reason no 3 I dislike windshields. Super picky overly paranoid customers. Also  sup y’all. Just saying what’s up, and make sure this topic is at the top for now.

I can be an adult behind the wheel of any car. Almost any car…. Alright so don’t give me the keys to a fox body mustang. Lamborghini/rolls or something you’re really worried about me breaking something on we’re golden. Old square 5.0 with a stick? I might steal it and make a run for it. I’m not sure if I’m serious or not either lol!

    Supercharged!
Full bumper, 18" Hood/Fenders, Ceramic front doors.

This one already had a little road rash from the summer season but otherwise pretty minty.

It's funny how the guys that daily drive these give you the smile when they hand you the red key
The reality is that I try to move the hot rods around as little as possible. Always fun to hear 'em roar when they fire up though

We all have out nitch I suppose. Restyling has always been mine. I like cars, I like art, I like efficiency and I gotta do something, so I guess I'm pretty fortunate to find an industry spot that does all three.

30% conversion rate on leads to sales is the floor, not the ceiling. Someone who knows that industry well could easily double that while up selling the tickets with other related services.

10% commission plus base pay? In order to pay someone 16 it likely will cost the employer around 21. Add the commission and you would be asking for 70k year which is likely not going to happen unless/until you can broker fleet accounts and turn up the volume as an outside sales rep.

Take a look at the company as a whole. Total inputs/outputs. How much would you allocate to payroll, materials, advertising, utilities, location and insurance out of 100% and maintain enough profit, after tax of course, to justify the carry cost?

Thats S500 is tough. You can’t pull the door seals. A call back would be a nightmare for the tinter.

Sweeps do not come off easily. Top seal on back doors do. I still pulled the panels, it was sketchy with the way they do the trim around the handles.

Sorry Randomwalk101, but a BTU meter was specifically designed to measure performance of HVAC units, therefore is unreliable in measuring the sun's electromagnetic radiation.

As it has been stated by Ryker: "Unless you have a really high dollar meter you aren't measuring any thing worthwhile." The film manufacturers rely on a $100K+ spectrophotometer to conclude solar performance of window films. If you want the best in accuracy during field testing you'll pay a hefty price for one the the following hand-held devices. https://www.edtm.com/

Here's an explanation from a previous thread that may shine some (solar) light on your quandary:

~ The chart attached shows electromagnetic radiation range in terms of Visible 48+%, Ultraviolet <2%, and Near infrared (NIR) 49+/-% light (using the red line). Publishing one wavelength/nanometer number really does not give the big picture.

Let's compare 3M's published single wavelength in NIR is at 950nm (nanometers) to Xpel's at 1025nm: you will see by the linear charting that there's a pronounced dip (bottoming out) at 950 and a peak at the 1025 position.

The peaks and valleys are representative of the 'intensity' of the NIR radiation. A dip is low intensity, a peak is high intensity. Neither of these two numbers fall within the most intense NIR radiation found between the 780 and 1000nm range. So, if someone were to publish an 800nm range (a high peak in intensity), it stands to reason 800 will be a better published performance number to that of 950 or 1025.

That said, the entire NIR range (considered to be 780-2500nm) is already accounted for in each films' published TSER (including visible and UV light radiation).

Hopefully this should point out the 'why' it's not reliable to state a single wavelength as any films' performance capability.

Edit for the sake of Joe Public reading this: the entire electromagnetic radiation range of the sun (UV, NIR, Visible light) is responsible for 'heat', however, only after it strikes, is absorbed by a surface and is re-radiate off that surface as far-infrared (FIR). FIR IS known as heat.

The reason behind any use of NIR wavelength(s) is because the human body senses NIR conversion to FIR much quicker than UV or Visible light energy. NIR travels beneath the skin closer to nerve endings, which is where water, being highly absorptive of NIR, heats up.

Now, if a reported 88% NIR rejection at 1025nm is brought into perspective by using NIR's 49% of 100% of the sun's radiation, in reality it's such a minuscule number when accounting all wavelengths from the sun, combined. Sure sounds good to say 88%, but the (TSER) big picture tells the truth in film performance values. And, it makes stating 88% heat rejection misleading at best. ~

So you aren't measuring IR but a generic "solar heat". I've got the old analog btu meter and it was a cool tool but I don't use it and have not for probably 20 years.

    You are way overthinking this.

What we do, especially auto can be hard to pickup, and you expose yourself to damaging a customer’s vehicle in new and creative ways. Be careful, research before you take on a job. Good luck.

Oh boy, RnR time this week for some local hotrodders. Dang car had so much compression the starter would barley turn it. I don't know what was under the hood but it was angry. Neighbors came by to see wth I was working on after hearing it.
