  2. Im not that worried about brand recognition. Ive been getting work with Avery and its got little to no brand recognition as far as tint goes. I'm just looking for a good brand that I wont have an issue with. Avery is a fairly cheap option as far as Im aware, so I'm just getting ready to move into the big leagues with a more premium brand. Ive used STek's tint and I was pretty happy with the way it looked, shrank and the overall experience with customer service has been great too. I stopped using it because their specs feel like they are below par compared to the other premium brands. Specifically their TSER. Their NEX line seems to be compared to Xpel Prime XR Plus, but the specs were more on the line of Prime XR. Anyone know how that TSER number is calculated? Is it just a calculation combining light rejected, transmitted, reflected, etc? Looking into panaplex, autobahn, and global now. More specifically global because of recommendations.
  3. I have been using Avery Dennison's NR Nano Ceramic IR but I keep seeing cloudy results or low-angle haze. I think some haze is acceptable as a trade-off for performance, but there are just some customers who may not be happy with the result. Does anyone know of a tint manufacturer that has little to no low-angle haze? Preferably one without a $10k minimum monthly buy-in or something crazy like that. Does this only affect ceramic tint?
  4. You're right. I get dumbfounded by the amount of coverage that the original installer did. Kinda crazy what they get away with.
  5. I get what you're saying with the "don't discount at all" and instead build value. So you think just giving them a set price will be ok? I guess the whole commission thing will end up being a bit of a headache for me to try and keep track of it, making checks or paying cash, taxes... HMMMMMMMMMM. I think I just talked myself out of it lol Never lifting on partial hoods and fenders is pretty straight forward, but what about full bumper wraps or the dreaded mirror caps? I don't have a plotter so I'm doing everything all bulk by myself. So lifting is inevitable when it comes to a bumper wrap, unless I turbo stretch the crap out of the film to position it "properly" from the beginning. Even then, the overstretch has to be relaxed. I don't use a solution bottle anyways. The guy I used to work with would but I never understood why. You have soap, which slips, and alcohol, which tacks,in the same bottle mixed together fighting one another. I can get away with a soap and water only solution at 2.5mL of soap added to a 32oz bottle. It's slippy enough to reposition, and tacky enough to just hold for a few seconds for it to grab enough. I never understood the solution hype. It works for some but I'm not one of those lol. Soap and alcohol are in their own separate bottles for me.
  6. I've had my fair share of paint peeling. From what I've learned though is just a matter of having enough soap, and precuts help a ton. I've had cars strip when repositioning a door edge guard. That had to have been 100% on the prepper or the paint was literally sprayed that day. But yeah, I know fresh paint is trickier to deal with 🤪
  7. I used to work for someone that mainly focused on collision centers. I wasn't a fan of how they ran things so I'm slowly taking into consideration things that I wasn't a fan of and trying to implement things that will benefit the business. I don't know exactly how the other side of the coin works (collision center/hail repair shop) but my thought process is: If I can encourage and educate them to offer higher ticket/profit packages and tickets, then they benefit and I benefit too. When it comes to pricing, the guy I used to work for would price his collision center items higher than what he would charge at our shop. I know he would do it to make up for the hours upon hours upon hours of driving. I don't want to do that though, my service radius for repair shops is fairly small. I currently have 3 that I've secured, but I'm interested in securing maybe 5 more for a "steady" set of income to supplement the retail traffic I get. That's the whole reason for this commission madness, to entice the other shops that I've been to to use me as the new clear bra guy. As far as I'm aware, 20% mark up was the norm for our services or any other sublet services. That said, the whole reason for my thought process is as follows: I offer a 5% or even 10% commission for the shop, but I deal with the customer on my end. Meaning, my shop will get payment for whatever we install and I deal with any issues that arise from any mistakes I make. That in turn lowers the ticket item for the customer making it more accessible of a service vs having my price be inflated by the repair shop. AND in the end, it gives more exposure. I don't know, still trying to work through this. Obviously most of this stuff is something I would have to talk to specific shop owners about. Maybe they prefer the 20% mark up vs. the 5-10% I'll offer (who wouldn't), or maybe they're absolute killer sales people and selling someone a 20% marked up item does not seem like a big deal to them.

In the end it's me and my install that I'm selling. Not the branded product I suppose.   9. Interesting take. Thanks for both of your inputs. I'd be curious to see if anyone has tried the commission outlook with hail repair shops. Like maybe enticing the sales people to sell PPF or tint to the people with new cars or no tint?
  10. TL;DR - How do you go about convincing, or informing customers that come in with a specific brand in mind? So, this question is for those of you using lesser-known but similar if not better performing PPF brands like Hexis, FlexiShield, Opticle, and all the myriad of custom signature brands that everyone and their mother seem to make. Or to those who are good at marketing and selling a product I guess. I had a lead call me up this past week asking for a quote for a full-front PPF on their car. I proceeded to grab their info, and I told them I would email them a formal quote with pricing and other options. The last question on his mind was, "What brand do you use?" I proceeded to explain that I use Avery Dennison Supreme Defense Gloss for my PPF installs. That said, this specific customer knew about the big brands in the PPF game. They have done some research of their own (I assume in vehicle-specific forums) and in a way sounded like they have their mind set on a specific brand. Avery Dennison isn't that big of a name when if comes to PPF but they are one of the top dogs for vinyl wraps and vehicle graphics. I know some people are set on the specific brand that they heard of first, or have had installed before, but there are those customers that are able to be swayed into getting another brand installed. In my experience, most top-of-the-line product lines from most manufacturers feel, install, and perform fairly similarly. I know there are differences in stretch and adhesive types, but the customer doesn't care about installation difficulty. What they care about is the end product and making sure the product works for them. I've worked with Avery Dennison, Xpel, 3M, Kavaca, STek, Legend, and Suntek Having said that, Avery has some incredible hydrophobic properties with their fancy top coat and also has little to no orange peel. It comes with a 10-year manufacturer warranty against delam- yatta yatta yatta, like every other PPF manufacturer out there. The specs are all there. Let me know your thoughts.
  11. I'm interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this. I have picked up a few dealerships in my area, and I've thought about offering them some sort of incentive from my side to push my services: window tint, clear bra, chrome delete, and/or ceramic coatings. I haven't looked into it much, but I was curious if anyone has done this before or is currently doing this. If so, how much commission makes sense? 10%, 20%, or even 30%? I know in a way, they would essentially be doing the sales work for us, so I would want it to make sense for them and for us. What's a common percentage? Again, I haven't done any sort of deep dive into this, so any input would be welcome. Also, how would you go about bringing it up?
  12. Oh yes, I recall my PPF trainer telling us that alcohol etches PPF. Thanks for that! Do you use a mix of 90% alcohol and water or do you use only 90% alcohol? Also, what do you mean by your second paragraph? Why do you coat the PPF with wax? It just seems like extra work and redundant since it's gonna go away in a week. What is your thought process and experience with that?
  13. Hi everyone. I am about to do a full front wrap on a Tesla Model Y, and I will be removing the emblem on the hood and replacing it with a new emblem after the PPF is installed. The customer doesn't want the emblem cut out and much rather prefers the clean look of the full hood coverage. That being said, I am using Avery Dennison's Supreme Defense Gloss Paint Protection Film. This film has an incredibly slick/hydrophobic top coat which in turn makes things impossible to adhere to it because it. I can only assume that over time that top coat will start to deteriorate and adhesion to it won't be an issue. However, directly after installation and coming straight out of the package, that top coat is very much present and has low surface tension. And although the hydrophobicity is an incredible feature, the low surface tension can be an issue if a client wants vinyl installed after the clear bra installation, or like in my case, if you need to remove an emblem and must replace it. So, does anyone know of a solution that may help increase the surface tension of this clear bra without damaging it? I've heard that either hand or light machine polishing might work, so I might give that a try. I've also heard of a spray that micro etches things like ceramic coatings, or in this case, the top coat of this clear bra. In this specific case I'm talking about Make More Money LLC's "Grab" spray which I've attached as a picture. I've worked with Xpel for 2 years at my previous employer and recently started my own mobile clear bra business in Denver, CO and am now using Avery. I never had to research anything like this with Xpel because their top coat on their Ultimate+ film isn't as hydrophobic, but I'm open to suggestions. Let me know your thoughts and if you've ran into anything like this, how did you solve this "issue"? Thanks -Ricardo
