  3. I'm trying to ask around and see the best pay structure for a PPF installer. I am currently an installer for a group of dealerships and feel like I am being underpaid, or at least not making nearly as much as some of the others I have heard. It's not uncommon from what I know that a good handful of installers average around 100k a year, is this true? I get paid flat rate and receive 6hrs for a extended hood/fenders protection etc, and 4hrs for a half. I am fairly quick and can produce some good work but from asking around is seems low, one place even said some Full Packages (extended front) get up to 12hr depending on the vehicle. What else is everybody out there making? Or any ideas of a better pay structure I could present to management? Appreciated!!

  6. Hello all. I wanted to ask you for help. Yesterday I picked up a car from a detailing studio that installed ppf foil on my car. I do not know anything about it, but I am not satisfied with the service. I want to ask for your opinion. Each element has bubbles, visible rubbish under the foil, stretch marks and badly cut elements, especially at the corners. Installers say that dirt, dust, garbage and human hair under the foil are normal things. Multiple stretch marks are also normal. I attach photos. What do you think? https://ibb.co/2PSQ9f2 https://ibb.co/SddRWVN https://ibb.co/p3nJkK4 https://ibb.co/84rRcF3 https://ibb.co/tsN065F https://ibb.co/T4XZxk6 https://ibb.co/yqp9DLn https://ibb.co/PDD01NF https://ibb.co/jVLbKMY
  7. Hey everyone, had a lot of prior luck reading this forum and wanted to get your advice on a recent PPF install on my 2020 Q50 Sport. I used an independent shop that I was given a referral to from an Infiniti dealer in my hometown. Looked up all of the guy's work and it looked great. He had pictures on his instagram working on cars from all foreign dealerships in the area, and other cars such as McLaren Sennas, LaFerrari'ys, Aventadors, etc. So I figured he was the best to go for the install. He charged me $1000 (cash) for a partial hood, front bumper, mirror caps, etc..which was more than the other quotes I received, but I always figured that the premium may be worth it in this case. The car has only about 4500 miles and did have some noticeable rock chips and scratches from daily driving, which he pointed out would be there. He also went through and explained everything with other smaller knicks and scratches to make sure I understood that technically it would be a "used" install. I received the car about two weeks ago and it really hasn't been to my standards. I had to go back twice so far to have corners shaved off, untucked pieces cut down, and other small fixes which I find to be pretty unreal for the price. This has made me notice cut marks in the paint that I can say for certain were not there prior to install. I am scheduled to have ceramic pro done from him next week and tried to look past some of the previous fixes that should've never needed to be done if it was properly installed, but after searching through the forum I think that more needs to be done. I attached pictures if anyone can give me their thoughts. Looks to be a ton of dust bubbles that are sticking out which he said were previous rock chips, even though they move around when trying to release the air with a needle. He also said it is impossible to get it "perfect" due to human error, which I understand, but there are a ton of areas that don't look to have enough coverage. He used a pre-cut kit for everything but the hood from SunTek. I am not sure what to do since I've tried to be very understanding since his reputation was very good, but I don't agree with how this was done and how many times I have to go back to have fixes to the film from a "professional". Would it be best to ask for a refund? Not sure if that is possible or if I would even feel comfortable having it redone. Thanks in advance!
  8. Ive been trying to get this oragaurd 270 on this car and keep on getting a white residue left behind when I push out any bubbles. I tried using less soap and more soap in my slip solution. I’m using distilled water. It’s like soap suds is left in a tiny bubble and when I push it out it smears into a white water mark like what you would expect if you left your car next to a sprinkler. This is urgent have to get this job done soon. It’s extremely visible on this black car.

  15. Good day all, I just joined this forum to exchange and gain the right knowledge from the right people. I had this idea since the start of PPF in my country (around 2010 or so) to buy my own material online then give to a professional to install (labor charge is cheap here). The prices that shops take for say full hood, bumber and fenders coverage is almost $1,300 (Conservative 3M shop). However, am almost certain that the material is not original. Therefore, we would you advise me to buy online an authentic 3M or suntek roll that will cover a full sedan. My plan is to get front coverage for 2 cars and bits and pieces around door edges and fuel tanks. Appreciate your feedback
  16. Hello everyone! I am from Russia and my company is creating digital PPF patterns for car interiors. By this moment, we have made PPF patterns for 120 cars and continue to create them. Unfortunately, in Russia this service is poorly developed, and I think, maybe there are specialists on this forum who are interested in our patterns? Please do not judge strictly, I do not know English well and could publish the topic in the wrong section. But I will be happy to answer your questions!

  18. Hi everyone, I was looking for a PPF forum that had this product installed already as I figured someone may have had a similar issue. Having a horrible experience with a PPF install that went wrong for someone I know, the whole car is peeling, knife mark, film doesn't meet the edge of panels and isn't uniform some is tucked some isn't. Installer said they would fix it then would respond intermittently about when to bring the car back. After the knife mark and the poor quality of the install you would see why someone would be hesitant. I tried contacting the manufacturer which directed us back to the installer end of last year. Then a bad game of phone tag when both parties were away for the holidays with the installer saying to come in when his PPF installer is present to look it over even though I sent over a dozen photos up close of the issues. Finally they got it seen last month by the original installer when they had their installer present which agreed the film install was bad and needed to be replaced. They said they would call back in about two weeks almost four weeks ago and never did until this week. They only responded after sending a email to the manufacturer stating they want a different STEK authorized installer to fix/ replace the film and ceramic coating or a refund which then they would pay to have the film stripped and go with a different brand which stands behind its product like 3M assuming the knife mark is not below the film into the clear coat or paint. The original installer agreed the install was bad and that they fired the person they had doing their PPF when it was originally installed last year. On top of the PPF CarPro CQuartz coating was paid for. What do you guys suggest? These photos are a few months old when I first started trying to get the manufacturer aware of the issue so peeling is worse now. On their other vehicles done by either the manufacturer or dealer with 3M PPF the films edges can't be clearly seen and they are much tighter around the edges of the front bumper etc also they never peeled or needed to be touched up. All of their cars are cleaned by the same people and the 3M film hasn't had a issue over several years. Some chrome trim I found also wasn't covered and it was supposed to be a full PPF install. For a point of comparison I asked Suntek and Xpel to review the images if their installers had installed this if it was up to their standards and they both agreed it was not and if it was their product they would have been involved including sending someone to inspect the work. STEK would not comment and directed me back to the installer. Though I did speak with a salesperson which agreed with me about when film would peel which is when its overstretched or a issue possibly with prep. From what i can find there should be a slip then tack solution at least for 3M. What would you do in this situation and what do you think went wrong with the install to cause it all to peel when no pressure washer was used?

  21. I'm about to purchase a 60" plotter for cutting PPF/tint and vinyl, but before I pull the trigger, I'm wondering what everyone's experience has been with the ones I'm deciding between. Roland GX, Mutoh VC, Graphtec FC, or Jaguar V. I've been cutting with Roland for years now, and I'm happy with Roland GX series plotters, but don't want to limited my potential because I'm 'comfortable' using them. So what are you guys using and why did you choose it?
