  1. I had on 20% before. It brought it down to like 4%. The whole rear in 20% just didint bring in enough light into the vehicle for my taste. Dont want to blacken it out but just want to darken it/tame the light coming in at night?  What do you think another layer of 35% would do to it?

I guess maybe the rear window at 20% and leaving the 2 sides at 35% could be a possibility.

    Thanks-

  2. Revisiting this. Thinking of changing just the back window only. 20% over the privacy glass gets it super dark. What if I peeled the 35% and went with 30%? How much darker do you think it would net? The rear sides at 35% are fine. They darkened up from 35% but yet the rear window seems like it barely did. Without tint and factory glass, the rear window seemed lighter than the rear privacy tint side windows.

Mainly trying to cut down on glare coming into the cab from behind being a flat window. But I dont want to black it out like 20% did.

No some films do it more than others and sometimes the glass itself makes it have that affect. My windshield I can notice it from time to time and it has 80 on it.

Could it still be moisture in it from installation? Its been COLD here except for this recent warm spell and I heard windshields can take several months to fully dry out...

.The windshield is laminated glass so adding tint I guess can do that also. Thinking about it, they're might be vehicles with straight factory glass without tint that exhibit this.

  4. Had my front windshield done in 50% Llumar FormulaOne Classic (color stable dyed non-metallic or ceramic) on my 2017 Ford F-150 and it has a rainbow effect to it under certain lighting conditions. I can wear polarized sunglasses just fine and it's not visible from the inside and is perfectly clear. But from the outside on a overcast day, it is refracting the light. This is WITHOUT sunglasses on.

My installer says this is probably just residual water from installation and since it's been cold, probably needs several months to go away and fully dry. It's been one month and I think it's gotten a bit better.

    Any thoughts?

  5. Yeah. I took it back....they were able to push it back down with a hard card. My installer took the extra step of also very carefully hitting the edges with some heat. He basically told me it's as good as it's going to get and it looks alot better. But I imagine once we hit summertime, it 'll get a good dose of strong sunlight and get a little better. But it's for sure laying down now.

I would suggest taking it in to have it looked at. It may be able to just be pushed back down and stick fine without redoing it. Those Ford's have some tricky dots sometimes and are known to do that.

    Thanks-

I know sometimes it's almost impossible to get the tint to stick in between the dots on the edges but this isn't even sticking on top of the dots. I don't know if they tried sanding them down. I tried to carefully use my finger to poke at it to see if it would stick but it wouldnt. Hopefully the shop has a trick to get it to stick.

  7. I got my windshield tinted about a week and half ago with Llumar FormulaOne Classic 50%. Well I noticed the tint peeling and not adhering to the dot matrix border around the edge. This is the small dot matrix border around most windshields, not the big dot matrix area at the top. It's been pretty cold out so i wonder if that has something to do with it. It is not sticking to it at all (not talking about the silvering that happens between the dots), but peeling at the edges.

Can this be fixed or needs to be redone? I really hope I don't have to get my windshield redone again.

  8. Well 35/40% over the rear got me to where I want at around 12% which is in the 10-15% range I was looking for. They call it 35% but I think its more of a 40%. Like you said factory rear privacy glass can be as low as 12%. Big difference in visability at night over the 20% over privacy glass... lost some glare reduction but oh well. Eyeballing it, the tint guy said the rears are 20%, but I suspect on the lighter end of 20% more like 25%. But my tint guy was right, 45-50% would've been too light. I probably would've been happy with 30%. 30% is a perfect happy medium between 20% and 35%. I run that on the fronts. But I'm happy with how 35-40% worked out over the factory tinted rear windows. Better matches the fronts from the inside. And a little bit more on the outside. I prefer it slightly darker in the back.

  9. So ended up replacing the 20% with 35%. Or maybe 40%......My tint guy says it meters at 12%. Which I don't understand because if the back factory tint is 20%.....wouldnt a 45% or 50% get it to around that number? You would think 35% would make it lower. 20% over the back, I didint have him meter it....but eyeballing seemed around 5%. I thought 35% over factory 20% wasn't going to be a huge difference from the 20% over the factory 20% but it sorta is.  I thought I was going to need to go 45%-50% to get it lighter.

  10. The shop I goto has a 45%. They have a 20% and 30% below that. I dont think they have a 35% or 40%. So my choices would be replacing the 20% with 30% or 45%. I don't think 30% over 20% factory is not going be much different over 20% over 20%.

What I could do is just replace the rear side windows with 45% and leave the rear window 20% over 20% factory.  Would this look weird? I have 30% on the fronts and it would lighten up the backs on the side to match better. But I want some mismatch so it dosent draw attention from law enforcement.

  11. Hi-

I have '17 F150 Crew Cab and I had the three rear windows tinted to 20%. So 20% over 20% privacy glass.I feel its too dark and I can't see out the back at night. I want to darken up the rears some and reduce glare but not this much. Plus I want the UV benefits of tint. Would redoing witb 45% be worth it? I'm shooting for more 10-15% final result. The current rear windows are probably less than 5% with the 20% on the rear.

  12. I have a 2017 F150 4 door F-150 and am on the fence about tinting the windshield 50%. My current tint is 20% over 20% Privacy Glass on the rear window and doors (similar to 5% on the front), I got 30% on the fronts which is pretty light but not too light, and have a 5% Windshield strip which peaks at the bottom of the Factory visor in the center. Since a straight piece of tint was used, it meets the AS1 line in the center but dips below it on the edges. But, looks legal and not too low from the outside. Law is 35% in my state on the fronts, windshield to AS-1 line only, and unregulated behind the drivers seat for SUVs and trucks.

So, I may want to go 50% on the entire windshield with a similar 5% brow or a straight one if I can find a tint place that can cut a perfect radius in the bottom of the strip instead of flat that meets the AS1 line all the way across. With 30% fronts, how dark is 50% going to look on the windshield? I don't want the truck blacked out and to attract attention just darker. I've driven someone's vehicle with 35% on the shield and it was fine from the inside out but would never go that dark there. Just trying to reduce glare, slightly darken the front, and reduce UV and heat through the front. I know theres ceramic films that go lighter than 50% and block much more heat, but I cant justify the price on those for a piece a glass that might need replacing if it gets cracked or having to rip the tint out if I get a fix it ticket. At least with just a brow tint, im out $40.  And it looks like 50% is the lightest you can go in premium dyed film like Global QDP or FormulaOne Classic like I have on the rest of the vehicle. Yeah I'm running slightly illegal tint, but I like to keep it low risk of getting a ticket. Around here, trucks don't get pulled over often for tint compared to cars. I know people with 5% all the way around on the doors on their truck and have been pulled over and nothing said about tint on the doors. But, people have gotten tickets for the windshield, but had their windshields like 20-35%. My one friend has 40% on the windshield and 5% all around and has been pulled over multiple times and nothing about his tint. Don't know if 50% would attract attention, especially with the lighter front doors. Most vehicles with 50% on the windshield look dark, but they have 5% doors. Don't see many pics of 50% with 30-35% front doors. I think if a police officer can't see whether your wearing a seatbelt and stuff inside the vehicle, that's reasonable to pull you over for tint. For some reason though, a windshield looks darker with 50% then a side window with 50%. 30% on the side you can perfectly see in IMO.

  13. So, I take it running the edge of the 50% tint up to the bottom of the tint strip won't work? The bottom of the tint strip is a curved brow so it's a flat factory edge. I was just wondering it you could match that with the Factory edge of the 50% and cut out the sides and bottom to match. I was thinking it would make it modular so if you get busted for the 50% windshield, you can pull that off and still keep the 5% strip. If the 5% strip is still on top of the 50% then it would have to be all pulled off and strip redone. But I guess if it makes a light gap, then this is probably a no-go. Both are the same tint and thickness, just would be different shades.

  14. So, if the windshield already has a 5% brow at the top and you want to fill in the rest of the windshield with 50%, what is the best way to do it? I was wondering if you can just come up to the edge of the glare strip with the edge of the 50%. Or will it have a gap? Or should I just apply the 50% over the strip? But I've heard of problems doing it that way. Just wondering if there's a way to do this without having to remove the strip and redoing, then putting the strip on top of the 50%.

Also, is 50% on the windshield safe? I know I definitely wouldn't go any darker. But, any lighter it seems like you get into the expensive ceramic films. 50% I guess is about the clearest you can get in standard film.

    Thanks-
