First,  I how you don't hit anyone driving at night but when you do I pray you and the person that tinted your windshield both pay.

Thanks, of course I will, I am completely aware of that, and ready to face consequences, as any Man should.

My main reason for posting though is you don't know math.  If you have 20 and 50 on a windshield that is already around 70 then you are already well below 5%.  You are easy darker than 10% alread.

I heard windshields were around 90-93% VLT(Correct me if I'm wrong) and not 70-80 like side windows are? In any case, I was only talking about my added setup, because I thought it's what people are used to hear and not the full VLT computation...

I do believe the question of the topic was "Is 5% tint on the windshield reasonable? The answer is.... NO.

All other asinine remarks by will be ignored by me from here out...

I am sorry if I've been rude to you, it was unintentional. As for "Is 5% tint on the windshield reasonable?", it was more of an attention grabbing title, rather than the only formulation of my question.

I completely understand how I might be viewed as a troll, but I am simply not. I was looking for answers like this one:

I do know I’ve seen a lot of people in some various other countries that always have their windshields in limo, for a number of different reasons. (Mostly security)

I have no idea what the laws were there, but IMO it’s just too dark!

The install quality was very low, (trash, creases). Didn’t seem to bother them at all. Makes me wonder about customers that complain (with 80%) about an imaginary mark or halo you can only see if the sun is in the right angle and you hold your head a certain way!

@WatchingYou  Respectfully,,,,, please stop.  You already know you aren't going to get the answers you want.  You already have been told by others in other places the TRUTH OF THE SITUATION, yet you refuse to listen.   Please do not make a video to try to prove anything and please move on to somewhere else with this situation.  You are in the wrong place here to try to get the improper answers you are looking for.  Thank you and Have a Nice Day.  Move along.

I'm sorry, I just thought people would be interested about that on a tint forum.

Troll was my first thought too.

Even if not, I don't want to beat this dead horse again. :deadhorse

I am not trolling! I have had a 10% windshield for a month now and I got used to driving with it at night. I am seriously considering going darker, as you can still see interior bits in some circumstances with 10%. In any case.

I will be posting a video of me driving at night, just to further prove that I'm not a troll.

  5. I am debating wether I should take it up a notch, and tint my windshield 5%, or just keep my current setup, looking for insight from experienced folks.

    My current setup is:

-5% Xpel prime XR on the sides

-50% over 20% on the windshield

-Double 5% on the back window

    Here are some pictures:

Needless to say, I was told by my buddies, and the internet that this would be a ridiculous setup, and that driving at night would be a public safety hazard, an exercise in masochism, and bla bla...But as in turned out, it wasn't an issue at all thanks to the amazing phenomenon of eye adaptation, a combination of brain-conditioning and extra pupil-dilation. Also, my bright HIDs are certainly appreciated.

What's left for me to wonder is, should I take it up a notch, and make my windshield 5%? Do you think it would stretch the limit of eye-adaptation, or is it doable? Are some of you experienced with such extreme setups?

I would have to say that would depend on how cured the edges are.

Much like leaving water around the edges to seep back down into the film, the moisture that will build up around the edges can seep back down into the install and cause the edges to release.  The other issue is if you haven't pushed out enough water and go to clean the moisture, you could move a water bubble and cause marks or issues that way. :twocents

Okay thanks, but how can I know if there was any damage? Also, it wasn't a lot of condensation, just a little mist on the windows and windshield

According to the meter the double 20 is darker. Visually imo though the 5 looks darker. Keep in mind you always have to worry about warranty issues when doing two layers.

Thanks for the help! So if the meter says double 20s is darker, then I think it practically is darker. It may look lighter to the eye when you hold the 2 pieces together because they're not 100% flush until you actually install them, I think.

Most likely you are fine...the waiting 2-3 days is a guideline just in case.  Give it couple of days then roll down to check if the film shifted.

Excuse my paranoia. If there is no shift in the film, then would you say It's as if nothing happened and I shouldn't expect any problems with bubbling or peeling?

  9. I got my car tinted today with Xpel prime XR ceramic tint. A buddy hopped into my car 5 hours after the tint job was completed and rolled the window a quarter of the way down, and then immediately rolled it back up after hearing me scream. There is no visible damage, nor does the tint look any different than before, but I am still worried as I payed quite a bit for this ceramic tint. Does the fact that there is no visible damage mean that it's as if it never happened? Or will it lead a problem over time?
