Probably a tint meter. Not needed in Michigan, because you can just measure 4 inches from the top to determine if it's illegal.

That’s what I was thinking. But seeing how it went down the window and how she had to roll it up so it was only cracked about 1/2” has me confused. But saying it was .7% too dark is also weird as it was 20% and the only law is the top 4 inches.

The law has not changed here...yet. If it does change, nothing is enforcable for 90 days. What part of Michigan was she in?

Were located in the Upper Pennesula. Right on the border of Canada. I’ve personally been pulled over for tint in my impala 34 times in 5 years and I just hand them my prescription with no issues. She said they walked up to the vehicle with said tool and then asked for license and registration. I’ve never seen them bring anything up for me.

  3. So last I knew the law in Michigan for front window tint was no more then the top 4"'s and down 4"'s on the windshield.  Had a coworker get pulled over on October 12, 2018, it was a state cop who pulled her over for the tint.  She then had her roll her window down, put a "tool" that looked to be made from cardboard/thicker paper.  She then had her roll her window up so it was just cracked about 1/2".  Following that she said her tint was .7% too dark.  She had the windows fully tinted in 20%.  She said that she let her go with no issue and warned her it was illegal.  So this has me wondering, has the law changed at all and what exactly could this "tool" have been?

  4. Thanks for the info guys. I’m going to call and talk to the local state police building Monday to talk to them about it. Also I’ve decided the lowest tint I will go with will be 50%. Talked to a friend with it and he said the 35% would be too dark, especially living in a very rural area.

My buddy has 2% tint all around and 35% on his windshield, he has had a script for 7 years and was sent to the state and added to his info when they run his plate. He has gotten pulled over once and they said his scripted covered all the tint and he was good. I’m going to ask him to see what his script says as I’ve read conflicting answers on the script working for the windshield.

  5. Hello guys, new member here.  Never was interested in window tint until my doctor 4 years ago mentioned it to help with my migraines I get when driving. Happy to say I haven't had any in 4 years at all.  He wrote me a prescription for severe photo-phobia and stated I needed "full front window tint".  Fast forward now and I now have two vehicles that are fully tinted, my impala has 20% all around excluding the windshield and my other has 5% all around, again excluding the windshield.  I now have two separate prescriptions from two different doctors for the tint, and was looking to get the windshield done in 50 or 35%, really thinking 50%.  Wondering for those with windshield tint, hows the visibility at night?  I don't drive much at night and when I do, my quad retrofit will light the way.  Lastly does anyone know if a medical exemption will cover windshield tint in Michigan?  Talked to a state cop last week and he said I won't have any issues at all with it.  Also stated there is nothing in the law saying I couldn't have the full windshield while having an exemption.
