I have a 2000 black rx300, my tint is the factory chromish green. I was wondering what I have to do to get my windows all blacked out, I hate this green tint. I seen about 2 rx's out there with all black tint, I am in nyc and am looking to do this asap, please advise :lol

If the RX came with factory tinted glass the "shinny look" then you are stuck with it. Replacing all the glass is your only option Very Expensive. If you want to tint the 2 front and 2 tiny little vent windows to match that can be done and it looks great. I use llumar PP 18 to match or PP 35 or 50 if you dont want a tint ticket

Most reputable tinters will not recommend anything outside the laws of the State the vehicle is registered in. The vehicle spoke of here is in NY and NY has one of the more strict tint laws in the nation. Nothing on the front doors, except UVshield and even that may not pass the VLT standards in NY's tint law.

And vinni, the recommendation to replace all the glass then have it tinted with black film is an option... a very expensive one. While you're at it you may as well look into putting dark glass in (option 2).

Keep it legal...

even though metint is 100% correct with what he says I live in new york and so does vinnycuz and in new york just because its illegal doesnt mean you dont do it

New york state does not check window tint as part of any state inspection however you can get a ticket from a traffic cop if the sides of a pass car or front doors of an suv have ANY tint on them. does this happen yes does this happen often no if you have 50% on the front doors the odds of you getting a ticket are slim. be polite roll down your windows yes sir no sir I didnt know it was illegal I bought the car this way they didn't say anything to me about it when I got the car inspected last so I assumed its legal for the road ill have it removed tomorrow I dont even like the tint

there isnt one shop in NY tinting rear window and windshield strip only

That's exactly what it means...IT'S ILLEGAL.....DON'T DO IT!!!! :lol Glad you're in New York and not here! I've got enough illegal tinting hack shops to lose business to.

      Automotive Tint Comparison

      LLumar, 3M and Solargard have in the industry as far back as the genesis of window film mid-1960's). Solargard is the younger of the three and all others came to play in the last 20 or so years. I've had all three on my vehicles over the years and my current is 3M Crystalline on my Jeep since 2015. It still has stable color, scratch coat is holding strong and impeccable adhesive clarity. Never been garaged. My choice toady would be 3M or LLumar.

      Hook up with Glassy Business and get all the ins and outs of pro vs DIY with window film. That company goes back way before my retirement in 2015. I want to believe they are/were a Vista Film dealer and I cannot remember the owner's name. Peace out.

      Once more thank you, you are the best I been looking at the specs for the products you mention and info into tinting a window. I recently did wrap my wife's car and it turn out really nice, for what I have been seeing tinting a window is similar and I am tempted to do it myself. With that said I can't find any place to buy the products you mention, I found quite a few films in Amazon but they seem sketchy. There is other web sites selling films but the ones you mention I can’t locate, anyhow is there any place where I can buy this products?

      Forgot to mention; if your house is under HOA, you may have to check in with them. Some, eh hem, many seemingly shy away from having a reflective look to the glass. A dual reflective with a visible light transmission of 35% (ex: NV35) would likely be more palatable to HOA, but not so happy for the owner. Your position to take with them is: The higher the reflectivity of a film product, the better when dealing with desert heat. There exists a necessary (physics) compromise in every window film transaction. Can't please all parties. Glad I could help educate.

      Thank you very much Tinguy1980, I was just about to mess it up. I appreciate your insight! I would have never guessed that the products I was thinking about "run counterintuitive to the use of the product" for the excessive heat. Frankly it does get so hot in that room that at this point I am less about how it looks and more about performance, during summer the AC never stops running in that room, electricity prices here in Las Vegas is up there hence I am trying to invest in ways to cool that room down.       Personally knowing what it's like in Vegas when it's hot, I would stir clear of any film TSER performance value less than 60% or a solar heat gain value greater than 40%. Prestige does not fit this and would be a big waste of good money. Huper Optiks' ceramic products have high solar energy absorption rates, so in hot environments these kind high absorptive films run counterintuitive to the use of the product while using air conditioning to cooling the interior. High absorption on the inside pane, where most films are applied will radiate that absorbed heat toward the room. Outside breezes across the exterior surface of the window will not be as effective in cooling down the interior than say a low absorptive film, high solar reflection film product. In this case, low absorptive/high solar reflection products should be a go-to such as: 3M's Night Vision15 or NV25, Vista Film's Dual Reflective18 or DR 28, LLumar's DR15 or DR25 (which closely matches 3M NV), or Madico's Optivision in and around the same number assignment. The numbers assigned to films represent the visible light transmission of the product. When a dealer comes out to assess and likely have and leave samples, use the samples as sunglasses by wrapping over your eyes a viewing out and in the room. This gives you a more precise idea of what the film will look like once applied. A small sample placed on the glass will always appear darker than having the entire panel tinted. Good luck.
