INFRA-RED

Recommended Posts

how'd you gonna shrink films with high IR rejection???? :lol

I'm inclined to believe that high IR rejection is for the near infrared delivered by the sun and not so much with far infrared produced by the heat gun... if the film were good at rejecting far infrared, then you'd also have low emissivity (low E) capabilities with high IR rejection, too. :lol

Heat gun should work fine provided the poly has shrinkability. Sometimes though, the new tech films require stacks or layers of particles (whether ceramic or metal), which translates into multiple passes through the machines. This stacking can create shrink challenges.

IR films fact or fallacy...:DD

IR only covers 53% of the solar spectrum so those numbers may sound reeeaally good, but let us not overlook the role visible light plays in the heat (gain) equation. :DD

Has anyone in tintland seen or heard about using infra-red from the big manufactures to shrink there films as to using heat guns?

Yes... I have heard of this. The result was not what you would expect, but the electric blanket theory may do about the same. :lol

Need a heat gun at this stage... no other method ::er:: wait... I heard that there's a shop in Cali or Oregon that uses some kind of a bazooka shape hot air gun (used in roofing) to heat form. Word has it... daaaaaammm that shrinks fast!

Never have followed up on it... too bazaar and a good one will run in the area of $500 or more.
