SEATTLE - Welcome to the world of the Washington State Patrol, whose new motto must be something like, "Honest, the ONLY reason we're giving you this ticket is because we're concerned about your safety!"

First, I think full-disclosure is in order here.

I mean, I don't want to be thought of as a Jim Compton (Seattle Councilman) so...

I've gotten two gifts from the Washington State Patrol: a WSP coffee mug, and a baseball cap that says "Click it or Ticket."

Just wanted to up front about that.

Now, have you heard about the Patrol's "window tint squad?"

Eagle-eyed troopers are out with a glorified light meter, pulling folks over to measure how much ambient light filters through their car's tinted windows.

    Too little? Too bad.

It'll mean a $101 ticket and orders to fix those windows or risk having your car impounded (Guess the troopers can't see who's not wearing a seatbelt through dark windows!)

It's no wonder the legislature didn't raise taxes. Instead, all lawmakers had to do was give the patrol some extra pens and lots of leeway!

So, what could be next on the patrol's "Let Us Protect You" list?

How about not clearing bugs and bird droppings off our windshields? That could be an obscured vision ticket!

Maybe under-inflated tires: an impaired braking ticket?

Whatever, we can all rest assured it WILL be for OUR OWN safety because certainly: It couldn't be about the money.

damn straight! don't get me wrong, I am against illegal tinting, as much as anyone else, but this guy is right, it's gone too far.
