There's not much stone in FL. ppf is a thing, but likely not like what you would find out west. If I were a young dude trying to get some serious chops, I would go apprentice with some salty old installers in somewhere like Pheonix, Salt Lake, Texas or even Atlanta. You could probably make a few bux out there while you're at it.

Ppf has been in heavier use out west for longer and the installers out there seem to have a deeper knowledge having worked thru all the random crap over the years and more installers to bounce ideas with. I've met a few guys who were badazz techs that never touched a piece of paid window film.

As for Miami, that place is crazy. You can be in a good spot, drive two or three blocks and be in the hood by accident. Good times if your looking for gas or just following a map. That was also the first place that I ever saw bars on a burger king...that was in '92. I still drive thru there every couple of years on my way to snorkel the Keys and it never gets any safer, just a fresh coat of paint. :twocents

I know that's not the answer to your posted question but I thought it might help.

Miami just seems to be a fun spot to vacation in, and intend on going to no matter what this winter. I just wanted to be it more worthwhile for me to go.

it just sucks that the industry in general hasn’t caught much in Canada, specifically Quebec ( I feel we are way too behind), which is why I’m looking for anything to learn in the US.

Appreciate you sharing that with me man!!!

  2. Hey guys, I’m looking to take a vacation in Miami during the winter (trying to catch a break from the season, and escape the Montreal winter for a little bit). I’ve currently been installing ppf for about a year now, and I feel to go and learn some intermediary to advanced techniques; and it would be great to do that while on vacation as well.

What places in Miami or Florida in general can I take these advanced courses?

Those look like tack marks from the film sitting while you work the other side.

I'd bet a nickel that the paint was really dry. Most of the time I'll do a light polish, so the film doesn't bind so quickly, after I decontaminate. Then I alcohol the edges to take it back off where I want a tight seal.

This was a Tesla, so I don't know if this changes anything, but we were also slipping the hell out of the film while this happened. We were using premium shield before this (which seems to be a tier lower then suntek), and never saw these appear. Would this mean we so happened to get a bad batch of film? or is this user error?

  4. Whats up OG's!!!,

I've gotten my hands on the suntek film and recently just installed matte ppf on a brand new Tesla model Y, during the install I noticed that the film was drying up rather quickly then any other install I've done, as well as I noticed weird marks for the first time ever. We were using film from china for our practice and never noticed this. So is it safe to say that I might've gotten a bad batch of film? or is there something I can do technique wise as an installer?

    My guess would be...

    1. Over stretch at the edges

    2. Not prepping with straight alcohol

    3. Wax or ceramic coating on the surface

My prep work usually starts with a clay ball on the surface and pure alcohol before an install, followed by a pure water flush on the edges before trimming the excess film. A light bit of heat 20min later.

We have been thoroughly prepping the car (clay bar, apc on the edges, etc), we still get minor finger towards the edges even after following tack points. Are minor fingers still a cause?

  6. Hey guys, I've recently been coming across issues of edges being lifting on clients cars. At the shop we have been heat sealing the edges with proper heat gun settings and also using tac solution to lock down the films. Me and partner are thinking 1) maybe the adhesive of the film is to weak (using Premium Shield), 2) or tac solution is either too strong or weak, 3) or maybe we should be using adhesive promoter on the edges.
