Anyone tried platinum EXTRA/ulta DEFENSE? Apparently its a thicker and stronger film han the regular platinum/ultra. Does it offer better optical clarity/shine?

Hi everyone. I am about to do a full front wrap on a Tesla Model Y, and I will be removing the emblem on the hood and replacing it with a new emblem after the PPF is installed. The customer doesn't want the emblem cut out and much rather prefers the clean look of the full hood coverage. That being said, I am using Avery Dennison's Supreme Defense Gloss Paint Protection Film. This film has an incredibly slick/hydrophobic top coat which in turn makes things impossible to adhere to it because it. I can only assume that over time that top coat will start to deteriorate and adhesion to it won't be an issue. However, directly after installation and coming straight o…

Hi everyone, wanted to see if anyone has used PPF on Natural Stone such as Granite, Marble etc. If so, how long did it last on the surface and what were your outcomes with installation. Thanks

I am new here and am desperately looking for advice or recommendations. I just started up my own PPF business. I got certified by Xpel last year and have worked in this industry for many years at the dealership. Now, everything is done, I have the shop, EIN, insurance, etc. I just need customers. I cannot seem to get the dealerships to come around to utilizing PPF. They come up with excuses like it's not in demand or it's too complicated to go through the corporation, etc. Anyone else have this problem at the beginning of your startup? What am I doing wrong? I am slowly starting to think I've made a mistake. I love this work and really want to make something of it.

I've been installing for 5 years with ppf, scotch guard venture shield, pro series and pro series 2. I started on 2011 range rovers and Jaguars, I was the in house guy at the dealership, I was there for about a year then luther wanted to start a accaury division to weed out the venders. So big Corp. and son of luther sit me done offering me a position I said yes and of course lots of promises that didn't fall Thur. I have been with automotive performance studio for 4 years now and I was the last standing of the 4 guys they had at the begging of the start up. There was ups and downs but always made more every year. Needless to say i just couldnt put up with Corp. bullshit…

Hi yall, I'm looking for a bulk roll of ppf size 60" x 50 ft gloss for a couple of my rides. Prefer sealed package of Xpel, Legend, suntek, stek or 3M. Will pay cash if price is right.

Hey guys! 1 Year into PPFing (and plotting) and I can't figure out how to get my film to stop sliding left or right before plotting. I've changed ALL the pinch wheels, the teflon cut strip, and cleaned the metal rollers under the pinch wheels. I even cut my film off the roll so it's not pulling. Sometimes I can get it to go straight, but it takes me anywhere from 15m to 30m of fiddling with the film to achieve. Is that normal? Thanks

Hi all new to the forum. I tried searching my issue and found this site so I decided to register and post my concern/issue and maybe someone here has some advice for me. I have a 2022 Challenger Jailbreak I took right from the dealer 3 miles down the road to get PPF installed. This place was recommended and overall, I am very happy with the results. He used XPEL and did the whole front end, lower rockers, and some other small areas. He says he uses the XPEL library and doesn't cut any film on the car. I am only not happy with the way the stripes turned out, this car has matte vinyl racing stripes. He decided to cover the whole hood with the r…

Can anyone confirm that the birthing method where the PPF is softened with steam is doable on a 2022 Porsche Cayenne. I want to avoid removing the side mirrors and also the seam along the top of the mirror if it can't be done. I actually purchased the rubber gasket that seals the mirror to the door so that I can have the exact shape. I have the pdf of the scanned gasket if anyone wants it.

Hi Guys, I recently had PPF done on my car and the badges on the car wasn't put back correctly. Would it be OK for me to remove them carefully with a hair dryer, dental floss, and re-apply them back on with double sided tape meant to apply emblems back? I know I can ask the company that did the PPF work but I feel like I would be more accurate/taking my time to put them back in the proper location. I just don't know if it will ruin the PPF that the emblems are on right now. Also most of the seams were done pretty well but around the mirrors I noticed that seams where two ends connect is pretty obvious...is that normal? Thanks!

For my wiki, what is the technical - industry term to describe the sticky reside that resides ontop of the film from being squeeged out. Let me guess, it's called PPF Slip Solution Goop 😄 JK.

Hey Folks, I'm starting up a mobile PPF business in the coming months and am looking for a little advice on the best products to start with and build around. I was thinking of starting with 3M clear bra, window tinting and ceramic coating. Any recommendations on the product to focus on and best product to use would be much appreciated. I do plan on getting a proper shop up and running in a year or so, but want to start as a mobile service. Thanks!

Since Dano brought up cut paint, dare I ask How often in confidence have you cut paint and hid it......or unknowilling hid it. In the world of PPF or Vinyl Wrap My previous shop (who generally has a few million in car worth @ the shop) - one time I removed PPF and found a cut. Masked by the PPF. A simple analogy would be take a scratch iPhone screen, buy a $10 glass protector on it, and all those scratches go away. Since discovering the cut (even from a high end shop), I swore off PPF for quite a bit of years.... Anyhow, be curious on the topic of cut paint and what fellow tradesmen on the board say...whether it happens i…

So I’m going to try and keep this short but I am hoping others with more experience than me can give me some advice on how to proceed. I own a 2022 Golf R and recently took it into a shop that had good reviews to get the full front wrapped in ppf and to have tint done. Let me start off by saying I’m not trying to bash the installer as he’s the owner of the shop and actually a really down to earth guy. However, I was pretty unhappy with how the ppf job turned out. There are visible edges that are lifted and not layed down and areas around the sensors that the ppf is either mis aligned or they totally forgot to cut out the ppf around the sensor. There are bubbles…

Hey guys, I’m looking to take a vacation in Miami during the winter (trying to catch a break from the season, and escape the Montreal winter for a little bit). I’ve currently been installing ppf for about a year now, and I feel to go and learn some intermediary to advanced techniques; and it would be great to do that while on vacation as well. What places in Miami or Florida in general can I take these advanced courses?

Hello, I’m buying a new vehicle and plan on having it wrapped in Expel Stealth or something similar. I’m wondering if there is a PPF that is matte and is tinted to darken the color of my paint? Bonus would be if it’s hydrophobic. thanks for your insight!

Had PPF done, there seemed to be a bubble or some sort at one of the bumpers body lines. Bought back to installer and he took a syringe and injected it with more liquid or something. He says it should go away but I don't feel confident. The other bubbles he poked with went away but this one is still remaining. PPF was done about a month ago. Most bubbles went away except for a few. It's been a hot 80ish degrees here. Does this look like it will go away? Good day all, I'm looking for recommendations on the best approach to finishing the rear edge of the spoiler on a 2022 Porsche Cayenne. There is no way to wrap the film under where the pain meets the black trim but there is approximately 2mm worth of material (orange line). Should I attempt to cut it flush where the spoiler edge ends between the gap or stop shorter (blue line)? I'm a little concerned of the edges lifting if I bring it to the edge but would much prefer that location for a cleaner look.

Hi. can you guys recommend type of film that is best used as a car screen protector (that can be removed easily and leave no fingerprint when using it) and also another PPF film to protect a windshield. I need to test 2 cars how it works out. I need something clear. Maybe a roll of it. I need type to know what type of film and also where you find it - both for the screen and for the windshield

So I just got my vehicle back from getting the front end wrapped in stek dynoshield. The vehicle is a 2022 tesla model s and I'm aware the part requires the film to be cut in 2 pieces, so when I received the car I noticed the installer left 4(2 on each side) gaps on the lower portion of the bumper. When I picked the vehicle the installer mentioned he was not able to wrap it with one complete piece and that the plotter cuts the film for the bumper in two pieces. The next day I contacted him and asked if there's anyway he can eliminate the gaps, not asking for it to be done in one piece and I'm fine being in multiple pieces just as long as the seams meet up without any gap…

Hi, New here and was not able to find an answer via search. My town requires parking permit stickers on the rear bumper (for the train station). The stickers are pretty tenacious requiring a heat gun to remove (they are valid for 2 years) and usually some adhesive remover for what's left behind. I have a vehicle which has a full XPEL PPF wrap (including rear bumper). I am looking for ways to adhere the parking permit to the PPFed bumper. I was thinking of using another (slightly larger than the sticker) strip of PPF and sticking the sticker to that, then installing that on the PPFed bumper. This is what people in Californ…

Whats up OG's!!!, I've gotten my hands on the suntek film and recently just installed matte ppf on a brand new Tesla model Y, during the install I noticed that the film was drying up rather quickly then any other install I've done, as well as I noticed weird marks for the first time ever. We were using film from china for our practice and never noticed this. So is it safe to say that I might've gotten a bad batch of film? or is there something I can do technique wise as an installer?

Hey guys! What shoes do you guys wear? I've been wearing Addidas NMD- as they are super comfy. However, they are knit shoes and water gets inside (to my sock) and makes for a shitty rest of the day. Can you guys recommend some comfortable shoes that are more waterpoof, that won't leave my socks and feet all nasty after a long, wet install? BTW, my first post here! I'm glad to have finally found a forum for PPF installers! (been doing this for the past 8 years!) Cheers! -raj

I tried to search this forum about this. But could not find any answers. As the question says. I want to buy a pre-cut ppf kit for my car. With either Xpel ultimate, Suntek ultra or 3M scotchgard pro. I want to tackle this myself this time. Thanks for reading.

Hey guys, I've recently been coming across issues of edges being lifting on clients cars. At the shop we have been heat sealing the edges with proper heat gun settings and also using tac solution to lock down the films. Me and partner are thinking 1) maybe the adhesive of the film is to weak (using Premium Shield), 2) or tac solution is either too strong or weak, 3) or maybe we should be using adhesive promoter on the edges.

I have a bit of an odd question. I messed up and bought this 2013 Escalade knowing the roof and hood needed to be repainted. I thought I looked it over well enough and didn’t see any damage on the rest of the truck, specifically the tops of the doors, quarters, and fenders. The truck is metallic black, was slightly dirty when I looked, and the damage is so small that I missed it. I washed it the other day and found some very small cracks starting in the clear coat on the top of the right front door, one corner each on both rear doors, and after I buffed one quarter as a test found a couple cracks on top of the quarter. I bought this truck to be the family car and it won’…

I just took my Tacoma in get a 3m ppf clear bra installed on the front of the truck. I'm concerned with the install quality but I'm not sure if this is normal or not. There's a bunch of really poor looking, jagged cuts with small frays sticking out, some areas where there's very visible gaps in the film, many soap bubbles, and they scratched the underlying paint in a few places. I paid $575 for this so I would expect a much better quality install. I registered the 3m warranty, but I'm not sure if I should contact them or reach out to the installer asking them to reinstall some pieces or offer a partial refund for the poor install and damage to my paint. This …

Hello, I've installed PPF on my headlights but since it was my first time doing PPF there are some issues. There were few bubbles left which evaporated in like 3 days but there are these areas that look like air bubbles? PPF is Oraguard 270, I must say that the installation was very hard since this film has virtually no stretch unless heated and my headlights are very curved which just makes it even harder. The squeegee which I got with the film sucks because it's the plastic one that is fairly rigid, I have a feeling that this issue was caused by bad squeegee.
