Moving Forward

For so long I've been slammin cars out. Get it done and move on to the next. Speed was key to me, fast money. However, recently, I've slowed down, began charging more and taking much more time and effort in my jobs. Less work same profitability, working on nicer-cleaner jobs. Starting to pull panels if necessary to keep it clean. Now I'm starting to move on to filing edges. I know this topic has been posted a few times. I saw olfa blade shaving edges with his olfa, but just curious on what files to use. headed to lowe's and need the right one to get me going. My installation costs have been going up and want new techniques to rationalize costs to my customers. No one I've seen in my area does it and want to capitalize. I understand the technique, just need to know what files I need to get. thanks!

I use a exaco with a #11 blade, but thats just me I have used files, I just bought a set of small ones and played around. Several did the job. A small bastard file The file takes off too much glass for me.

Thanks, yea I saw some other people using the exactos also. Just sometimes when I try it, I end up catching the film and have a hard time shaving at the correct angle to keep from catching the very edge of the film and tearing.

sears sells a decent 6-8" bastard cut mill file thats what I use.

no problem, I like the filing but I am workin towards gettin the method Stan mentioned down. Its way cooler, that being said this is a great way to get introduced to it.

Ive grown fond of the shaving method. But Ive gotten curious of the filing method as well. Im gonna swing by Sears and pick one up and give it a try on my own car. If I screw anything up.. Ill only have to explain it to myself..
