Hey guys.. Currently I use Tru-Cut software with a Graphtec plotter and it works great, but doesn't have templates I need for a job I have. I got contracted to tint a bunch of heavy equipment by this company and it would be nice to create my own templates, or have access to software that has templates for bulldozers, excavators and front loaders because I know I'm going to be doing a lot of work for these guys. Thanks in advance.

Hey mate, did you have any luck with getting templates done?

  2. i bet it was the clip that holds the gasket in ? Done it before use magnetic wand to get it out

Spot on Tikka.....as I went to pull the gasket up, I could see it was coming with it and as I lifted it out completely, it fell back and down inside. :sad

    Devil

trust me u won't let it happen again
  3. Dropped a bloody clip today in the back door of another X5 15 model and I had to remove the entire door trim....what a pain in the arse.

Only saving grace was that I got plentiiiii for the job which made me feel a lot, lot better.

  4. I'd like to see how to remove the spoiler on these. I dry shrink them all....I cut the top against the spoiler and trim a tad off after dry shrinking for a nice top-edge and I leave an extra 1/8 of film overlapping the matrix on the bottom to compensate if the top comes up short.

that is exactly what I was doing but now I remove the spoiler , it seems like a lot if work but it's just like removing 1 on a focus.as soon as I get 1 I will post pics.i tint for BMW so shouldn't be to long
  5. I did one yesterday and found the back window to be difficult, i just cut it out on the demister line below the top, that helped, but heat shrinking...pull all the fingers to the bottom :)

The roll ups are still over 20" high, and I found that you can't over cut too much on the side seals, they just wont go in properly, tried and failed and had to cut smaller. Can't see any light but you can see where the tint stops on the back frame edge near the c pillar.

Customer was also buzzing around me pretty much the whole time. The look on his face as I pulled the top of the door trims back, he nearly crapped a chicken lol.

you can pull the spoiler to make it easier , easy easy easy
  6. I use it at a 1:100 ratio and love it. Haven't found anything better.

how many litres you mix at a time ?
I'll often add ten litres to my Corny tank setup at a time. No problems with sedimenting etc, so I can just top it up and get a perfect mix every time.

The official suggestion on the bottle when you convert it to "real" units of measure ([emoji13]) is about 80ml : 10L water. We have higher temps and higher humidity so I bump it up to 100ml:10L. Nice round numbers, good mix of slip /grip, and easy to adjust for different quantities..

    10ml:1L

    20ml:2L

    30ml:3L

    etc etc.... [emoji106]

yeh I like slime I find micks mix a little more slippery in this stinking heat tho. I always run slime in my big sprayers , as you said no clogging.
  7. Lovely side windows, typical BMW gasket attachment but the front door hides a small screw under the little plastic cover plate where the door lock plunger goes up and down that should be removed.

Just take note carefully where it sits in the home position that this screw marries into.

Rear screen is a dog with an overhanging spoiler which doesn't make your day.

Big vehicle, lots of film, charge plentiiii.

    Devil

super easy car and least the windows are now shorter then the previous shape

My first jeep.. Tape the seals & run with it!

Why don't you just pull them out? The whole felt gasket comes out and goes back in easily if you haven't tried before.

When putting them back in use some glass polish and they just slide. One screw, pull back panel and then pull gasket out, easy done

Right on man, I haven't really gotten into the whole panel pulling thing yet.. Only been tinting a few months. Plus the customer was watching me & was one of those kinda people who woulda freaked out if I started tearin his jeep apart lol
Yeah they're fun to deal with.

Always a BMW owner who I have to convince for about 30 minutes and pretty much push in to show him I can take his door apart so I can convey to him your gonna get a better job.

Best I've heard is for an x5 "nobody else in my street has one of these so I'm just weary about someone trying to pull it apart"

Wtf does your street have to do with the car being made differently to any other x5?

Anyway, have you done a newer Alfa Romeo? They come out the same way. Just my opinion, but I would definitely look in to pulling panels, you'll break some while learning, of course.

But you'll make getting a great job a hell of a lot easier

Lol I know right.. Haven't even had a whole lot of experience with customers yet & already seeing some crazy stuff! Haha. No I haven't done one of those.. I would like to start pulling panels just because it seems faster/ easier once you learn actually how to do it.

How am I suppose to practice pulling the panels if I'm gonna be breaking em?! Lol. Don't wanna be 1st timing it on a custys car & have to pay for a door panel!

if you go carefully you won't break the panel a few clips maybe
  9. Lol, actually. I didn't nit pick your photo(s)

I was trying to make you and as many people go through each of the 10 photos of the white car and the 9 photos of the black car.

But good to know you leave gaps in your quarters :lol

It is said that you are not pro until you have at least 75 cars, we'll that was my 68th car, so I am almost there. I can guarantee you that anyone can find some blemish on any installation even from the most seasoned tinters.
Don't know where 75 came from.....

I'd forget that number too if I were you.

Are you telling me no matter what u do or did, there is no possible way you could get the quarter window without a gap? Or do u just accept it because you haven't done enough cars yet.

You can be a "pro" after as many cars as u want, it's your choice, not someone else's.

I know a guy whose been tinting since the start, claims was the first to do this n that..... I can put out better work....

Then again, I know a guy on this forum whose been tinting probably for less then you and I absolutely DARE you to try and find one spec in his work.....

    It's in your head mate

I accept neither excuse, however - the two quarters were really tight, I changed slip content twice and it will crease a little at the end. One thing I accept, I am not perfect nor anyone is nor turn FLAWLESS jobs each time that Olfa is pulled. Like I said, I can look at anyone's job and find something, minimal or not with any job.

I also do not beat myself over the head accepting the fact that the quarters on the Honda was the only feature I was not 100% satisfied with - but then again that customer must had, as he called me again to tint two of the RV resort party buses this weekend - at that point I will be re-doing those quarter panels if he brings the car around.

And yes, you can always find a spec here and there even on the most clean work bays. At least I am posting close up pics of my work, NOT a picture that is 6 feet away like many others LOL yeah, it looks great and passes that 6 ft rule for QC.

yeh those quarters are pritty tough but doable the next 1 I get I'll post on how I do it, still looks good though mate:)
  10. sweet day mate how's the lexis for tinting?

If you've got that McGyver way of thinking they aren't that bad. If you're a straight peel it stick it and trim it kinda guy you're gonna have a very bad day... [emoji41]

Cut, shrink and trim your 1/4 windows before installing them makes life easier, and the rear fixed headrests sit within a poofteenth of the back glass. But if you stop it at just the right time, you can reach the rearscreen a lot easier when suspend 1/2 way through the roof opening sequence.

doubt I'll ever see 1 of them but if I do I'll be giving you a buzz
  11. Must be doing something I'm not? Do you treat the matrix any differently? Doesn't matter what film I use even oxide it will show. It's 1000% better than others for the matrix, but doesn't come out like the rest I'd like to know how u do that would solve a problem

just steel wool man , hard press bout 10mins later and sweet, I don't get good results on the captiva tho ?
Captiva? Did one today in Fusion42, came out great .??
beats me mate?car goes perfect dots let me down , only in the split window/7seater

Try sanding with 1200 wet/dry and then steel wool, that fusion sticks like hell to dots and usually doesn't leave much air underneath ...except for things like your really raised VW dots
never tried sanding will give it ago
