  1. First of all, why did you play games and not just say you had a medical condition up front instead of being a jerk about it ?

Second of all, for the VAST MAJORITY of people who have no exemptions, it's illegal.

Again, you made no mention of any exemptions.  if that's in the code and I missed it then I accept that I was wrong about that and apologize for my mistake.

    I didn't see that.

Are you the one with the condition or a family member?

  2. Let's end the guessing and nonsense right here.

You are not allowed to use 15%, 35% or even Clear tint on the entire front windshield.

In fact, it's not even legal WITH a medical exemption in Florida.  In fact, NO TINT is allowed on the front windshield in Florida EXCEPT a strip at the top.

    Now you know.

    Florida Code 2018

    Chapter 316

    316.2952 Windshields; requirements; restrictions.

    (1) A windshield in a fixed and upright position, which windshield is equipped with safety glazing as required by federal safety-glazing material standards, is required on every motor vehicle which is operated on the public highways, roads, and streets, except on a motorcycle or implement of husbandry.
    (2) A person shall not operate any motor vehicle on any public highway, road, or street with any sign, sunscreening material, product, or covering attached to, or located in or upon, the windshield, except the following:
    (a) A certificate or other paper required to be displayed by law.
    (b) Sunscreening material along a strip at the top of the windshield, so long as such material is transparent and does not encroach upon the driver’s direct forward viewing area as more particularly described and defined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 205 as the AS/1 portion of the windshield.
    (c) A device, issued by a governmental entity as defined in s. 334.03, or its designee, for the purpose of electronic toll payments.
    (d) A global positioning system device or similar satellite receiver device that uses the global positioning system operated pursuant to 10 U.S.C. s. 2281 to obtain navigation, to improve driver safety as a component of safety monitoring equipment capable of providing driver feedback, or to otherwise route information while the motor vehicle is being operated.

316.2953 Side windows; restrictions on sunscreening material.A person shall not operate any motor vehicle on any public highway, road, or street on which vehicle the side wings and side windows on either side forward of or adjacent to the operator’s seat are composed of, covered by, or treated with any sunscreening material or other product or covering which has the effect of making the window nontransparent or which would alter the window’s color, increase its reflectivity, or reduce its light transmittance, except as expressly permitted by this section. A sunscreening material is authorized for such windows if, when applied to and tested on the glass of such windows on the specific motor vehicle, the material has a total solar reflectance of visible light of not more than 25 percent as measured on the nonfilm side and a light transmittance of at least 28 percent in the visible light range. A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318.

They aren't selling llumar film for that price.  Film alone for a full car is higher than $25.

Btw most newer factory glass is blocking a lot of uv and a good chunk of heat as well.

    Really?

Everything I've read until your post said otherwise.  I'm really glad to hear that.   But then, my car isn't "newer" so it probably doesn't block UV or IR.

I’ve always wondered, how you could be sure to get what you pay for on something like this? Unless, you are very familiar with the particular brand of film. Whenever the film come in, post a picture of the film, packaging etc. , if you don’t mind. Just curious.

I can't be sure.  I just trust.  I go by their feedback.

So far, it "seems" to be good enough.   They claim it won't fade and that it's 2 ply.

The feel of it definitely is not that cheap ultra thin one ply stuff.

They also say it will not "purple or fade"

Long ago I sold Luminar tints wholesale by the 100ft roll.

The stuff I'm getting from these ebay sellers seems of similar quality.

Who knows, maybe they're buying those same 100ft rolls and cutting it and selling it in their pre-cut kits?

From both of the above mentioned ebay sellers, the pre-cut  fit was SUPER precise.  Spot on every time.

I've never had to do ANY trimming at all.

That said, I don't know how long the tint will actually last or what (if any) IR protection I will get.

Time will tell.   But I can say the tint went on well, seems to be of good quality and looks great.

The price is ultra affordable.  $25.00 for an entire vehicle.  $12.00 for the two fronts alone.

    FREE shipping.

Let me add, I just removed the previous tint that had been on the windows for 7 years from the same ebay seller I believe.

it came off with no problems.   Not one bit of glue stuck to the glass.  I used a heat gun and heated the tint and it pulled off

wonderfully clean and easy.   as far as fading, I would say that it did fade after 7 years but did NOT "purple" at all.

it has proven to be HIGHLY scratch resistant.

My experience with these ebay tint kits has been excellent (so far) and I'm pretty darn good (for a novice) at applying it I would say.

Only an occasional hair and usually perfect otherwise with no bubbles, lifts or creases....and believe it or not, the only "tool" I have when I install is a credit card.

I'm just really careful and take my time.  I do want to get a BlueMax or an Orange crush tho to see if I could do better.

That said, I'm pretty sure it's not top tier quality tint (because I don't have enough experience to know the diff) and some people will likely chime in to tell me it's garbage tint.  It "could" be Luminar tint for all I know.

But again, it's worked well for me for 7 years so what can I say?

  5. Thanks,

I know it won't be Limo dark but that's ok.

I decided 30% laid over factory would probably be the best compromise.

Did some more thinking and going too dark might make it a bit difficult to see out at night, for me anyway

I guess it's not that easy to see inside now except in the brightest sun light because the fronts are 20% so the 30% over factory in the back should do.

Plus the possibility of attracting LEO the darker it gets.

No big deal to change it later if I want to.

  6. Hello,

My vehicle has factory tint on all but the two front side windows that I believe is 25% from the factory.

I wanted 12.5% so I added a tint film of 50% hoping for a final ting of 12.5%

    My math was .25 x .50 = .125 or 12.5 percent (or so I thought)

The finished job BARELY looked any different from the factory tint.  It was maybe just a barely noticeable difference but I was expecting a much bigger difference.

To my eye, it looked like it went from 25% to maybe 24 or 23%

What I wanted was for it to be a bit difficult to see through.  Not quite Limo dark, but just one step up maybe.  Where did I go wrong?

    Thanks

  7. Hello,
I realize this is an ancient thread.....but I was working on tint this morning (June 19, 2018) and Googled Hair in Tint and this thread came up.

    So may I add......
Before tinting, I  first clean and vacuum the car in question especially around the window openings.
Then I make sure my clothing is loose hair free....arms and hands too.
lastly, I spray around the window with water putting down a mist for about 12 inches around. it seems to help keep hair from getting attracted by static.
    2 cents

But the experts have the last word, of course
