I use one for removal, it really depends on the film your trying to strip, sometimes its easy, sometimes its not. I have tried expensive machines, not worth it, steam is steam.

I use a $50 Wagner wallpaper steamer. Works great, just have to be careful where that hot steam is pointing. I'd say a steamer was one of the best tools I've bought. It's a huge time saver. It works so good I even use it for side glass sometimes.
