what makes a good tint shop to work at?

Hi, first time on tintdude for years, forgot old sign in details.

Well, good work conditions??

Im currently working for the guys who brought my company.

20 odd years, Auto/flatglass

Im Full time (36hrs pw)

Earn $800pw after tax (not very much)

They book in between 3-7 cars per day. I only do 4 cars max without help.

I keep telling them im only good for 3 cars a day. No one listens

This involves also answering phones, quoting and invoicing.

I also pick up every car from dealership.

Lunch is whenever im hungry. breaks are never really questioned if I take 5min or 20min.

I also drop kids off at school in morning (im late every morning), and drop tools at 3pm to pick them up. then go back to work and finish off any cars or even just have a beer with the flat glass guys. They are usually cutting out next days jobs by then.

picking up kids was never discussed, I suddenly had my two kids come to live with me. So that is seen as a priority and not ever a problem.

I dont take sick days unless kids are sick.

If I need time off, just write it in the diary so they dont book in too much.

Today was funny, it was 42 C degrees (107 F) and I came in early. had the 5th car done by 2.30pm (boss helped with 1 car then went flatglassing) I was asked to car out tomorrows cars because I finished early. I Said im leaving as soon as the last car is done. And I did.

Basiclly, If you do the required jobs without re-work and keep the main customers happy, then anything goes.

Do %&$# job, get complaints, damage vehicles. Then im sure I would have rules in the workplace.

So I get paid bugger all, but I have freedom.

The boss.

If the boss DEMANDS the respect of a new employee right off the bat, the boss will not

keep that employee long.

If the boss nitpicks and breathes down the employees neck the entire time they work,

employee will soon leave.

If the boss makes issues out of non- issues IE: you took 45 seconds too long on that window,

do it again, I will have to issue discipline.

If the boss creates an atmosphere of distrust among employees and has different rules

for different employees, you will not keep the new employee.

It all lands on the boss and the environment he or she creates that will determine how

long an employee will stay......
