Another Price War topic...

Recommended Posts

This is something that happens in all markets at some point. Cheaper labor comes in and price chops to get the business and is only sustainable for so long. Look at vinyl wrapping. That became a huge fad a few years ago when 3M launched the 1080 series. Looking at it now, a few years down the road and it's hard to get paid what you should with something that is such a labor intensive product/service. It is becoming more of a do it yourself product because consumers are having a hard time justifying the price to wrap a full car so they buy some and do it themselves. Just like the spray cans of plastidip. We as an industry should do our best to keep prices realistic, but high enough that we can continue to make good money doing it. This also means that pricing does need to reflect the quality of your work. At the same time, how do you prove it? Take pictures, videos, etc... and promote why you charge what you do because that is visual proof for something that is optically clear. Not enough of our industry spends the time promoting and therefore have a hard time communicating what, why and how with PPF since it's more than just the dollar amount that customers need to look at.

If you walk into my shop I always have at least 2 cars tinted from the day before for the customer to look at plus have displays and heat boxes and samples from other shops to show them the difference in product and workmanship. Also always have 1 clear bra here although I personally don't like to install them.
