Sup Dudes! Long time.
My wife got a new "mom" car as we're expecting a baby in August. So a good friend and I did a paint correction, installed Ceramic Pro's 9H coating to the car, and tested out some of SolarGard's newer products.
VortexIR 35 Ceramic on the windows, XenithIR 70 Ceramic on the w/s, and sunroofs. I am happy! It's got the nice blue luxury look on the w/s and the color is great on the windows. My wife is thrilled, I'm happy and my family will be riding in style.
Hope everyone is well, -

The last few years have been fun, I'm still involved in real estate and about to take that little trailer to Burning Man I really enjoyed tinting the windows on it, like riding a bike.

Hanita Tek Titan 20 Exterior. Gotta have them dark tint papers on your personal whips

Unless your windows on your home are made of 1/8" clear glass, the spec sheets from either manufacturer are providing incorrect performance values for your windows.
Use the NFRC site to compare properly. Factory spec sheets can be very misleading.

You know what is amazing, I learn something every time and I do about 10 a year.
We can't be the only ones too, we are so welcoming to visitors. If you are even close to a film plant call your rep or someone there. I'm sure they will let you take a tour!

One thing that really helps clear the confusion but isn't really available to everyone... A tour of the factory where you buy your film. The men and women running those machines are capable of explaning it so it would make sense to a 2nd grader. Actually being able to visibly see what happens it very helpful though.
Great explanation Howard.

Awesome, love the name and the logo.
So, what is the deal? What sets this apart from other slip solutions?
Would love to know more so I can pass the info on.

To keep "preferred" pricing on Computer Cut you must buy $500 per quarter in SolarGard film. If you don't the price goes up, you are not cancelled or banned from using Computer Cut.

if they've done caulking before, they'd probably be a lot more qualified than you to do it, assuming you've never done it before
Have done it before on small jobs only (didn't get any pictures to show). Have used a professional caulking company for larger jobs.
The glass co. is used to caulking - but maybe not with DC 995 which is trickier to work with than standard silicone caulks. Have explained to them that the 995 needs to extend at least 3/8" onto the film and 3/8" onto the frame - but figured a pic would make it clearer.
Suntint, I have a tech bulliten from SolarGard/Armorcoat that spells it out very nicely with images and explanations. I would be happy to supply that if you shoot me an email.

What kind of car are you driving, what is the climate like in your city?
-
Yep!
Installed them myself
I literally just recommended this product today.
Its funny because some films fetch a VERY high premium for the fact they can block EMI signals.
-
Sputtered films tend to create more problems than standard metallized films. We have sputtered bronze 20% on our storefront, and I wish I had a dollar for every time somone dropped a call in the store.
Hi Jayz81,
Bingo.
The sputtered films are the culprits - the Ni Chrome Films in particular.
Standard vapor deposited aluminum films (typcial dyed-metal hybrids) are no factor. We have been selling the Global CHP for more than a decade without a single report of signal issues. If you are unsure what metals are in your film or which deposition method was used, check with your manufacturer.
For some reason, the myth that all metal films block signals still persists. Having metal in the film provides a dramatic increase in solar performance. It is a shame that many dealers rule it out over unfounded concerns.
-Howard
So then something like Global HP film should be ok since it's a standard metal film?
My other choice is a Formula One Pinnacle film with ceramic. Of course, it's about double the cost.
The other benefit to metal films is their reflectivity.
There are three things you can do with the suns energy. Reflect it, absorb it and transmit it. When you have a low reflectance film that has high heat rejection the absorption will be very high so the heat is being held by the film.

You'd think if this guys ass was on the line for 3yrs in prison someone could fork up more than $200 for an expert witness to help prove the key argument in the case. If no one local wanted to upset the local PD an out of towner would have been a no brainer.
That being said, I've backed out of that exact task for two reasons. One my employer probably wouldn't want me doing it, and as much as I support the right to police following the rules I'm not going to be the guy to help a drunk or a drug dealer walk.

Sunstrips be causin all sorts of drama, 3 yrs in prison.. ty losin his job... drama drama drama!

Many Florida LEO's can use a tint meter correctly. That already puts them ahead of installers in many states who aren't even familiar with that technology.
I'm dying to know the charge this guy is fighting. My money is on drugs or DUI
-
PLEASE , Put up a pic of said vehicle , with the visor strip in full view.
Most anyone here can spot a too low strip.
I'm sure he wants to proove you cannot tell from a distance. Therefore the stop was not legal.
Mr. Lawyer, what charges is your client facing? Other than illegal tint, which no one would ever employ a lawyer or expert witness to help fight.
-
so you're windshield strip's too big? pay $20 and have it removed and be done with it.
It probably has to do with what else was found during the stop, so the lawyer is involved to prove illegal search and seizure to make whatever was found during the "illegal stop" none of the states business.
-
Are you able to let us know what the case is regarding? I was asked to do a similar thing recently but it was to assist in a DUI case. I respectfully declined.

aluminum foil and wd40
just rub a flat piece of foil and wd40?
Yep, sometimes I work on older motorcycles and bringing those gnarly chrome wheels back to life can be hell.

Thats what I'm talkin bout! And if you want perfect edges, just bump it up and shave. Use it as an upsell, I'm all about the best installs.
I just did the math today, a new plotter and service would run a shop open 6 days a week for 50 weeks a year $21 a day, that goes down to $6 a day the second year once the plotter is paid for. Best helper you can employ at that price!
-
Another variable is if you use a plotter. You can cut a 7 series sedan with 40"x10' of film which would be unheard of with hand cutting. :asshat:
-
Be sure to get a tinsel strip to mount behind the plotter. It rests against the film as it passes through and helps disperse the static electricity. Some films are more troublesome than others.
Call your service center they should supply one n/c
What did you tint today?

Thanks Ric! Stoked to see this place is still the hub of the tint world. Have to admit I miss the business a little these days. The satisfaction of a finished tint installation, *chefs kiss*
