Tip for Reading Old TOTW Pages

If you ever read through the TOTW section, you probably noticed that a lot of the older ones are missing pictures... and sometimes, the tip might be a little confusing without them.

For those that haven't already figured it out, you can see older versions of the page by going to archive.org and entering the page there. It will go back a few years and you might have to check a few versions to find a good one.

I'll use Mdog's Back Glass Pattern Cutting Method tip as an example. You can get what he's saying anyway, but he's referring to numbered sections of a picture that is no longer there.

Go to archive.org and enter the URL for that tip (http://www.tintdude.com/totw51.html). That will bring up older versions, like this one, with the picture included.

Not exactly rocket science, but figured it might be useful to those that can't figure out certain tips without the pictures that should be there. You might find a few where even archive.org doesn't have the images, but it doesn't hurt to check.

I was like MDOG back glass pattern? WTF are you talking about? :lol2 I think I have been here too long, I have forgot what I have posted :lol2

I used that website once and found a bunch of lost photo shop pics fromTD.com. It was cool.

Good idea. Screw the tint tips... bring on the Photoshop pics! :lol2

Did something happen at one point where all pictures were lost? Or do they just get purged once in awhile?

      South facing windows DR film

      Install went great. I went with NV-25, I am very happy. The room has been darkened significantly, from bright and hot to much more pleasant and enjoyable. Watching TV during the day is no longer blinding, when it is cloudy it is definitely a bit gloomy, I am glad I did not go with NV-15. I plan on getting more windows done in the future to help cut down on heat energy. Thanks for everyone's input!

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      Captain Obvious has two cents err senses to share: 1) The film should be removed and replaced, because it appears to have adhesive blemishes that shouldn't be there, and 2) The film should be reviewed/inspected once taken from the roll to avoid losing time and resources due to manufacturing issues. Little pieces not so much, but back glass and windscreen pieces ... definitely.

      I switched so long ago... first to KDS but they went away. NT are great though. I use a piece of white strapping material as a cutting buffer between the blade and glass. Some use a button but I didn't like the feel..

      Headlight Taillight Vinyl question... (Looking for CHROME)

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      I can't win with getting tint decent on the windshield. I had 3M on my F150 done twice and still has major defects. Recently did Stratos twice on my F350 and I see this granular spotted, texture pattern on the tint. It's super obvious in the corner here but also right in my view when driving. It's honestly hard to point out and show someone but when your driving and stuff is moving behind the windshield, it becomes more obvious. The lighting also matters. The first time I did the windshield, I had a two foot line on the windshield. Thinking it was tint, they removed the tint and it was apparently a defect in the Ford windshield. An issue between the laminated glass layers caused this big defect. So they removed the tint, I had Ford replace the windshield on a 2024 F350 but when the tint shop removed the tint, they made a bunch of micro scratches in the front windshield, probably from scrapping the glue off. I told them but I didn't care since Ford was replacing the windshield anyways. So if basically I'm trying to figure out what this texture stuff is and if I should have them replace or remove it. Replacing it might just have different issues but also afraid they will scratch the windshield.
