2005 Ford Mustang

Q: Dealer asked me Thursday about kits for the 2005 Ford 300 and the all new 05 Mustang .....

Other than cutting my own pieces to fit, does anybody know if or when some of the kit manufacturers will have these available.... These do not look like hard installs other than the Stang has a pretty severe turn down lip on the fornt.

A: I couldn't resist taking the time to learn today on the 05 Mustang ..... I was doing it for a demo to the dealership.

I had a kit in my truck, and I also had some raw material on a roll .... I decided that the hood and looked simple enough (it was) even though the fender area with the cut out lights was tricky. So I guess you would say I did a custom install on the hood and fenders - which was all I was doing for the demo.

The dealer loved it and decided I need to be paid for the demo ... they will try to start retailing the PPF for me now.

A: I tried out the yellow turbo on the last install. It was great for the flat surfaces but I still like my homemade foamy for compound curves and recesses. Gets the film right in there. Did the entire front bumper on a 81 C10 including the number plate recess

A: The bumper was off already so I covered it on my work table. I use Venture with a foam Squeegee I make myself which deforms to get into the grooves and pockets. Great white north sent me a yellow turbo and that is great for the flat areas. The bumper took over 2 hours because I am still relatively new at this and I would rather take my time and get it right the first time than st*ff it up. My speed is getting better the more I work with the film. The C10 belongs to my brother in law so there was no rush. That means I was also charging family rates, not much money and a labor of love!

BTW, the visit to the Porsche distributor was a success as well. They used to have a guy but he went into finance for them. They weren't looking for someone but when I showed up they were happy to take me on as they were already sold on the product. One of the discussions we had was about patterns for the 997. The release is coming up and they were worried about the press cars....... publicity for me as well?

      Cracked glass

      The crack indicates thermal stress, however, the edge of the glass may have an imperfection (bur or clam shell chip). The crack does run 90 degrees out from the edge and curves as it follows any weaknesses in the pane itself. I have attached a pictured of what tempered glass looks like when it breaks and alongside it what a plate (or float) and heat-strengthened glass looks like when it breaks. The outer panel my be tempered should indicate so by a stamp etched on the glass surface in one corner. It should indicate tempered. Plate glass has no indicators, however, heat-strengthened glass will crack in the same manner as plate glass. I'm an unsure whether heat-strengthened glass requires a stamp. Tempered glass is 4 times stronger than plate and heat-strengthened is 2 times stronger than plate. 1 in 24 is indicative of edge imperfection. I could not find the solar absorption rate of DN 50, but if it is similar to competitive films, there should be no issue with that installation setting (including a straight line shadow). This, too, points back to edge imperfection as the cause. And finally, I spy drapes in a close position, correct? If so, it would be helpful to crack open during sun exposure; this to assist in allowing trapped heat between the glass and drapes to dissipate.

      Cracked glass

      Hello. I recently installed Johnson Daylight Natural DN 50 on a couple of windows. Solar energy rejection is 39%. The windows are double pane and the glass is supposed to be tempered 4mm + tempered 6mm. The roof overhang shades the top 1/3 - 1/2 of the windows. However, a few days after installation I noticed that one of the glass has cracked, presumably due to thermal stress. Should I remove the film from the rest of the windows? I installed the film on 24 of these windows (6 tiny houses) so now 1 out of 24 is broken. Or is it more likely that I just got unlucky and the glass had a defect? Is shading from the roof overhang such a big factor? The glass cracked. Is it really tempered? I thought tempered glass would shatter, but not crack. Thanks!

      Residential Film without blue hue?

      Take a look at 3M's Nightvision or LLumar's Dual Reflective series, they both have a warm tone to them.

      Automotive Tint Comparison

      Steer clear of Black Armour, Suntek, ASWF. The others are good choices if you are in Australia. Check out the reviews of the installer too. It’s not just the materials that have to be proper. Never go for the cheapest!!!

      Residential Film without blue hue?

      Hey guys I am in the process of having window film installed in my home but have a question about which brand I should go with. Hoping yall can help me out. I have a room that faces a busy street and as a result my blinds pretty much always stay closed. I love having natural daylight but not so much people being able to see what i'm doing in my room/all my expensive equipment. I used to work in the window film industry as a helper/installer/salesman when I was in highschool and we did a lot residential/commercial work. The specific brand of film we used always left a certain blue and cool appearance. Is there any brand of residential film that does not have this effect? I mainly just cannot stand having blue light amplified and am looking for a film that has a neutral shade to it or even a warm/yellow hue. I have single pane windows and I do not necessarily care about heat rejection but if I have to pay more for a ceramic film rather than a dual reflective or a standard film I am willing to if that helps solve the issue. Again, any help is really appreciated with this there are so many new window film brands out there and it really is cool to see how far the industry has come.

      Automotive Tint Comparison

      LLumar, 3M and Solargard have in the industry as far back as the genesis of window film mid-1960's). Solargard is the younger of the three and all others came to play in the last 20 or so years. I've had all three on my vehicles over the years and my current is 3M Crystalline on my Jeep since 2015. It still has stable color, scratch coat is holding strong and impeccable adhesive clarity. Never been garaged. My choice toady would be 3M or LLumar.

      South facing window tint

      Hook up with Glassy Business and get all the ins and outs of pro vs DIY with window film. That company goes back way before my retirement in 2015. I want to believe they are/were a Vista Film dealer and I cannot remember the owner's name. Peace out.
