Another Exquisite Tool :)

Recommended Posts

I think I mentioned this before but wanted to put a pic up .

This is again IMHO the best hard card I have ever used. I got the idea from a friend in Co.

and have just improved on it. It is a drywall tool cut down and the bottom edge filed and then polished with varying sandpaper (wet/dry) grits to obtain a smooth finish. When it is done you should be able to lay a piece of film on a glass table and hard card it without scratching. It works great for graphics too cause it seals the plotted or cut edge wonderfully. It actualy "shaves" any rough edge, you just need to keep from bangging into any other edges.

I know a guy who uses one just like that with a cloth towel wrapped around it.

He says it works great. Just kinda sharp looking for me to use on solar film.

Probably great for S/S film though. :thumb

The edge is filed flat and sanded smoothe, as long as you dont hit an exposed edge of glass it works on all films.I thought the same thing the first time seeing it used.

it a dry wall spreader isn't it?

Looks like you just chopped the handle off and rounded off the corners.

Exactly :thumb It's one of the stainless steel ones , I had some carbon steel ones that would rust up so I switched.

but flattened the edge (filed) and sanded totally smooth so as not to scratch any film. Sometimes I wrap it sometimes I dont.

ever try a steel bondo spreader? you can get one about that size with a small rubber handle that doesn't protrude. They are a little bit thinner.

Haven't tried those, I like the stiffness of the drywall knife and also the handle is rubber but I like the control of it.

Thanks for the idea though!
