So the other day I had a R&R on some old tint. I have yellow sleeves that hold paperwork. I laid it on the back glass and boom it looked charcoal again. So the sun removes the yellow dye and leaves the other pigments. Try it out sometime it was interesting to see for my own eyes.

Yes, the yellow dye fades out leaving the blue and red to form purple. Today's color stable films use a much more stable yellow dye.

Dyes and pigments are two distinctly different coloring systems; dyes fade, while pigments are not known to fade for extremely long periods of time in comparison. This is why some polyester makers moved to produce pigmented polyester (some wrongly refer to is as extruded because all polyester is extruded); however, pigmented-poly has poor surface adhesion properties compared with deep dyed polyester so you may find higher incidents of delamination or HC separation among these films..

Mr Howard also impresses me with his sharings on some things that factories don't elaborate indepth. Smartie is fun, he is not only a guru, he is open-minded and does not simply brush differing opinions aside, including mine. hahaha.

Everytime it becomes public information on this board it seems to lead to my departure by my own or other people's doings so I remain anonymous to those who don't know or remember. I have had people throw me under the bus through emails or phone calls to my superiors. Fortunately I have simply kept to posting on my own personal time and equipment so as not to create anything other than personal participation.

I dont believe nobody tried to headhunt him since he starts contributing here. He is an asset to his company. My most respected forumer.

Yes they have but I am under contract presently and would be unable to work in the same capacity elsewhare for a period of 2 years. This is another motivator to anonymity and only personal participation. Plus I am way to close to Social Security age to phuck up.

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      Captain Obvious has two cents err senses to share: 1) The film should be removed and replaced, because it appears to have adhesive blemishes that shouldn't be there, and 2) The film should be reviewed/inspected once taken from the roll to avoid losing time and resources due to manufacturing issues. Little pieces not so much, but back glass and windscreen pieces ... definitely.

      I switched so long ago... first to KDS but they went away. NT are great though. I use a piece of white strapping material as a cutting buffer between the blade and glass. Some use a button but I didn't like the feel..

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      I can't win with getting tint decent on the windshield. I had 3M on my F150 done twice and still has major defects. Recently did Stratos twice on my F350 and I see this granular spotted, texture pattern on the tint. It's super obvious in the corner here but also right in my view when driving. It's honestly hard to point out and show someone but when your driving and stuff is moving behind the windshield, it becomes more obvious. The lighting also matters. The first time I did the windshield, I had a two foot line on the windshield. Thinking it was tint, they removed the tint and it was apparently a defect in the Ford windshield. An issue between the laminated glass layers caused this big defect. So they removed the tint, I had Ford replace the windshield on a 2024 F350 but when the tint shop removed the tint, they made a bunch of micro scratches in the front windshield, probably from scrapping the glue off. I told them but I didn't care since Ford was replacing the windshield anyways. So if basically I'm trying to figure out what this texture stuff is and if I should have them replace or remove it. Replacing it might just have different issues but also afraid they will scratch the windshield.

      Need some help

      Never overlook the condition of the floor. Back when I did install, I used to mist the floor between the vehicle and the peel board. This is done between misting the window and walking toward the peel board to mist the pattern liner, peel liner and spray adhesive for install. Tacks any dust for the duration of each pattern install, so repeat each time a pattern is going to be installed.
