  1. No matter what business you’re in, managing expectations is key.   You’ll want to explain to customers that ppf is a sacrificial layer.   It’s more susceptible during the first few weeks it’s installed before it fully cures/cross links.

Show your car as an example when talking with potential customers about what to expect.

xpel did me a favor today so i can save some good 5-600$ a month.

xpel new rules, if you don`t buy film , no more dap , even if you had monthly dap subscription (325$) and you buy credits 1$/sqft....no more , greed is at their door again.

Trucut here i come, my real divorce with Xpel is happening , i did damp their film 1.5 years ago now is time to stop paying for their software.

    In my shop SUNTEK wins!

I'm sorry that you feel that way, but your post is a primary example of why we are doing this in particular markets.  You are using our patterns to sell a competitor's products.  It doesn't make sense to strengthen your competitors.  Nor does it make sense to enable shops that are competing with loyal XPEL-using shops.  We used to get calls all the time from loyal customers saying "why are you supporting someone that is pushing people away from your products while I am trying to bring them to XPEL?  It takes business from my shop!"

When you call these reps, rest assured, they will check on your web page, reviews etc, before calling you back. If you do not have a professional on line presence..you will likely not get a return call.

We definitely do our research, but typically call folks back even to let them know that we’ll be going another direction.

I’m aware of the rep mentioned here, and he’s a great one...just a little spread thin.   He regularly rolls up his sleeves and helps his customers install when they’re in a jam.  @stewy and @highplains, if either of you want me to reach out to your XPEL rep and get the conversation started again, just pm me.

I'm curious how the 3D scanner is able to simulate stretch?

☝️  Precisely why the scanners don't have much value...they can't.  The difficulty in creating good patterns isn't getting the parameters of the bumper as it sits on the car, it's knowing where the kit needs to stretch, rotate, seam, etc.

  5. @OZinstaller, you’ll notice that I said “this doesn’t always mean the biggest shop.”

I also said “where they get the most return.”  Sometimes the biggest return is growing a small shop into a medium shop or a medium shop into a large shop.

I cant speak for everyone, but I choose how I spend my time based on the attitude and loyalty of those in need of help and what I think they can accomplish with the resources I provide them with.  I’ve built my entire career on helping grow one man install shops turn into thriving businesses that lead their market, so I sleep well at night.

I apologize if I wasn’t clear in my previous post, but the point i was trying to make earlier is that reps generally don’t spend a lot of effort on part-timers, because their efforts are more productive if spent with full timers.

This is is no different than if you had a finite amount of time and had to choose between doing work for a dealership that only used your services and pushed your products hard, or a dealership that used you along with other ppf shops and only offered your services when somebody asked for it  specifically.

after 3 years of exclusive xpel i switch to suntek , xpel don`t value your loyalty , you end up be another number for them.

We're sorry you feel that way, but yes, we do provide different levels of support.  Our reps' time is in heavy demand, so they tend to spend their time in the areas that they get the most return.  This doesn't always mean the biggest shop.  Having said that we do have a minimum purchase level to be listed on the dealer locator.  If a shop is below that minimum, they tend to get less support (unless they are fresh out of training or new to XPEL).

Im having the same problem with our Xpel Rep, try calling never pick up the phone, dont call back don't know wants going on.The techs at Xpel  are not like the same tech they had last year the ones now do not know what they are doing when it comes to navigating you through their DAP software,i talked to 3 different people its the same with all of them not knowing how to,they should have been trained fully on the program before taking calls!Hopefully it gets better soon  or im jumping ship!

We still have the same folks on board, just added to the team and expanded tech and customer support to include our Canadian office for longer coverage throughout the day.

I recently picked up a Jaguar plotter and am looking into software to cut PPF. I know DAP is said to be the king of all software's but xpel isn't my go to film and I'm told I need to order Xpel film to use DAP. I use Stek and prefer to stick with it. Other than tru cut is there any software someone recommends? Any thoughts on a software called "Film and Vinyl Designs"?

    Thank you.

    Where are you located?

  9. The software is generally something that CS walks people through over the phone while remotely logged in.

Just let your trainers know that you’d like some DAP training while you’re in town and we can get you with a customer service member.

Shoot me me an email at johillips@xpel.com with any specifics that you’d like to learn and I can have someone reach out to you.

It looks like the kits from some of the other trim levels will fit it.  I’ll notify the design team to have them take a look at it.

trying to figure out how to use this dang software.  not very user friendly

Let customer service know if you'd like a quick tutorial, as it can definitely seem foreign if you're used to another program.

We also started with PPF and morphed into this, so the funciotnality is a little different.  We've got an update coming soon that should help make the layout more on par with the patterns.

TintTek left a lot to be desired..If FVD would quite oversizing windshields and rear windows they would be a lot better. I feel like there are going to be issues with any software. The new and improved PCS software from Llumar still needs improvement as well. Never used DAP.

If you'd like to try a free trial of DAP, just PM me your shop info and contact info and I'll get it headed your way!

Dealers would rather pay the bumper painter 200.00 to shoot a scratch than have a detailer pull PPF. ..Point is that there is little to no residual value to PPF at trade. In fact..like I said previously, people are more often being dinged at trade time with it on. And yes, tint as well.. Many dealers remove it in their recon shops due to state law restrictions..and the owner gets dinged for that as well.

I know folks doing ppf on hundreds of dealer cars per month in the new England area, so they must be dealing with different dealerships.  I respect your opinion and we'll have to agree to disagree.

The ppf mfrs would like you to think that it adds value to your car. In fact it does not. Calculate the initial cost to instal. Then deduct what you are secretly being penalized at trade in time to remove the stuff from a dealer, and it easily adds up to north of 2-3k. Now add in the possibility of the paint coming off with the old PPF .. or the ppf itself coming off in pieces the size of your fingernail in the future.. and that number easily doubles.. or more. Dealers like to sell it on new cars because they get to step on it and add gross to their sale. That same dealer hates seeing the car come in on trade or have to bring it to auction with ppf.

     It’s s suckers bet.

Actually, many dealerships love it because they make money off of film three times.

    1. Installed with the initial sale of the new unit

    2. No reconditioning costs on trade in if customer brings car baclk to them

    3. They get to markup the car on the pre-owned lot because it has film (or they easily remove it and charge to reinstall on pristine paint)

    Hey team,
Does anyone have any connections on a person or company that creates PPF patterns for automotive ? I’m specifically looking for someone to create patterns or point me into a company that will train on how to create patterns. Thanks for your help

I'm happy to help @LB55.  If you can send an e-mail to me at jphillips@xpel.com, we'll take a look into what you need.
