  1. You'd think if they really wanted to gain a customer they would send out at least a "trial roll" enough to tint one car. The film I use now, they ponied up a whole 40x100' roll for me to try out. Made a HUGE difference! :thumb

Why don't you call Llumar and request a sample. :lol

I did when I first started...They shipped me 10ft of ATR and 5ft of PP....

    Wow! How generous! (NOT).

That's what I mean about Llumar, arrogant jerks who don't need our business now that they are going after all the dealership work and bypassing us.

Because Llumar is not what I want to try out. Been there, done that. I want more information on Flex Film BEFORE I commit to buying their film(s).

I talked Ralph Van Pelt and he "seems" like a good guy. His claim is that the Koreans are getting it right and the Americans are dropping the ball because the US made stuff (IR and Ceramic films) does not hold up after installed. He says that they lose their ability to maintain IR rejection while the Korean films do not. His comparison he likes to use is how Hyundai is kicking butt because they have stepped up their ability to address customers with quality and styling. He said the same is true when it comes to the IR films he carries. Korean mannys have stepped it up too. (His words NOT mine).

I will say he has a compelling argument and again "seems" interested in the success of those he is selling to. :dunno

  3. I talked to the guy one day when I was looking around at films to try out...I have the price list if you want me to send it to you...He knows a lot about film and has a lot of great videos...Some of the information I don't agree with but I am hard headed, only 10 years exp for me and about 25 for him so I'm sure he might be right in the long run...

But the film, I told him or asked how about a sample to really see what its like....He said no, only that I could by a whole roll and if I didn't like it I could send it back full refund. Sorry but I'm no fool, I don't want to take a chance and maybe get some :poop and be stuck with it....

EXACTLY! Thus the reason for my posting about them. I love the idea of saving money and it has paid off for me in the past. But I have also gotten burned by buying film from a New England distributor who swore his film was the latest and greatest out there. Now I am VERY careful before buying from people I don't know. I cannot afford to risk my reputation on someone's "claims". :nono :nono :nono

  4. Ok, so yesterday I was contacted by the sales girl for FlexFilm.

Never heard of them but they claim they have their film "assembled" the same way 3M does by buying the poly from Martinsville VA, and glue, scratch coat, etc. etc. from others and have it boxed with their logo on it.

Then the owner called today and was telling me how they have been tinting for 26 years and decided to start selling film. They have some pretty informative videos on You Tube. His BIG selling film is an IR film he says has great heat reduction values and sells very well with a heat lamp.

My question is - Has anybody heard of these guys and better yet do any of you guys use their films?

Thanks in advance for the feedback

  5. I have Film and Vinyl Designs AND ComputerCut. You can definitely do more with FVD than you can with CC. FVD doesn't hold a gun to your head and force you to buy a particular brand of film either :thumb , Computercut is good but has its limitations. FVD on the other hand is very complete and accurate for the most part. FVD takes a little longer to figure out and get used to, but overall, once you're used to it, you'll come to prefer it over CC. :headbang

  6. 2012 7 Series in the shop today. Customer brought to me because his other tinter could not do the rear doors without screwing them up. I did them on the first try. Easy!

"Kids, don't try this at home!" :nono

Leave it to the professionals only.

  7. So the local dealer brings me a car 2 weeks ago for a well known race car driver. 2012 A7. Tinted it. Salesman came and picked it up. Everything was okay. One week later I get a call from the salesman that service says the "Amp is fried because of water that got into the amp while it was getting tinted". Salesman told me the radio was working fine when he picked it up. Service claims there is a Technical Service Bulletin on this model. ( I couldn't find one for the 2012 model year). Anyway, the Friday the salesman picked up the car we got hammered in Indiana with rain and tornadoes, then the following Monday the salesman calls me and says the amp is blown. Yeh, right.

    Anyone else had this issue??

  8. From what I have been able to find out, MaxPro is definitely NOT a re-boxed film. It is a component film - meaning that the components are "assembled" in various places around the U.S. and then sold under the MaxPro brand. The people behind this maker have a very rich and long career in the industry coming in many cases from BIG names having worked for those manufactures for several years. With large corporations now taking over and acquiring solid film makers, these people have left their former companies and banded together to offer a reasonable alternative to the likes of CP, Bekeart, 3M, etc. etc.

These guys are window film people with a love for what they do and an accurate understanding of what we as tinters expect and need. They have a passion for what they do and do not answer to the corporate "stockholders", they answer to us instead.

Most who have tried it LOVE it. Most who distribute it LOVE it.

MaxPro seems to be quietly taking market share and are building a solid customer base. I personally have used their commercial films and can find nothing wrong with them.

    :mad

    NOT :spam!!!

  10. Well I have been using/fighting with this ComputerCut system for the last year at our other location. I have been tinting auto glass for over 22 years and in January of this year I transfered to one of our other shops with a computer cut system.

I have to say it is the biggest joke in the tint industry!!! It is a waste of time and material. Cuts don't fit and need trimmed or are the wrong size all together. Film is constantly jamming up in the cutter due to SolarGard changing their liner a few months ago to a more rubber material and static is a huge issue. Rollers have been kept up and machine is always taken care of.

Switch films if you're having that much trouble.

I love my ComputerCut system. Works great! :beer

You have never had to retrim the top edge because the edge it cut was not a good fit?

Not often. Now with version 7 you can fix that sort of thing easily within the program.

ComputerCut is still one of the best business decisions I have made. :beer

  12. I went with ComputerCut about 5 years ago now and it was the best decision ever. I WILL say that sometimes precutting can be a love/hate relationship as many times customers that I never think will cancel on me will. Then I am stuck with a pattern that is exclusive to that make/model. I have several of these piling up in a box I keep in the office. Too many in one week or month and there goes your profit.

Overall it was a good decision for me.

  13. Had one to do today and could not get the 1/4's to stay up when the top went down. It would be good if I could find a fuse or something to pull that controls these little buggers. They have no frame around them and it would look a whole lot better if I could tint them to the edge. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks :lol

My girlfriends got one of these, will try and have a play around getting her top up and down!! :cool If I can figure it out I will let you know, may not be until tonight now but I will see what I can do

Going to work on this on Thursday. Need feedback asap. Thanks
