I do this on the Hummer and any window that shifts alot.......After you put pattern on outside of window, instead of cutting down the sides, I mark it with a sharpie, (this is really good for cavaliers) take to board and cut about 1/4 inch outside the lines you made with sharpie. Do rest of install and cutting and usuall.

I usually sharpie all front doors at front of door to make up for the shift of the film when installed. It helps stay away from any gappage.

I have found newbie's can learn pattern cutting much quicker the sharpie/grease pencil method... they only need learn the exposed glass edge cut and the rest is done by dot to dot straight rule alignment on a glass board.

Keeps from cutting up rubber gaskets, too.
