3m ppf scoring tool? WTF

Recommended Posts

Guest Josh @ Proform
This question maybe Zues can answer...what is this $189.00 ppf scoring tool that 3m offers. I take it this is for the beginnners? 189.00 bucks :twocents

I've seen it a couple times at SEMA. It is a blade designed for trimming 3m without cutting the paint. The shape of the blade is suppose to limit the blade penetration. It is a single blade, so I'm not sure how to remove or sharpen it if necessary.

It works....kinda.

It has a 5 mil blade (PPF is 8 mils), but if you stretch the film and it gets too thin it can still cut it.

I have one, it's rare I bust it out.

Also, starting the tear after the score can be very very difficult.

Kind of awkward to hold and use on mirrors/bumpers because of the angle of attack.

Anyone that tells you if you buy one you'll be a PPF master is lying.

The worst part is some schmuck bought this at one time otherwise they wouldn't be sellin it. :spit

You are much better off just learning how to hand cut instead of relying on it.

I can't remember the last time I took my zero-1 out.

Also, the blade supposedly lasts about 30 to 40 installs.

Well, when the blade is replaced you have to check to make positive it won't cut through PPF. If it does, you have to get a new blade, etc.

So later on down the road, you throw a new blade in, forget to test it and.....
