Tinting a Corvette ZR1 Hood

I have a customer who is interested in tinting the clear portion of his hood on a new ZR1 Corvette :beer

Right now I have both Moonraker and Lumar film in-stock, does anyone know how well this will hold up to the heat of the engine?

Yes the hood 'window' is plexi.

I explained to the customer it is not the easiest thing in the world to tint but he insists I alteast give it a shot....

Any tips?

vinyl wrap it.

a smoked headlight vinyl should work, they're usually designed to get a lot of heat from the lights. or look into getting a can of VHT nightshades. its the paint for head/tail lights, and is heat resistant. it sprays on just like spraypaint, then you can put a clear coat on it if you want extra gloss, otherwise its already pretty glossy.

My question is why? Does he want it to be slightly darker? Vinyl will work or have it painted to match the car. if he doesnt like the clear look :beer I wouldent put tint on plexi for a reason I ran into. --REMOVAL-- Had a yacht some one tinted 2 port holes that were plexi. Film went south. Would not peel off. It was delaminated into dust, had to scrape it which scratched it, then put some vinyl on them. Looked better than to start with. OK do that to that vette hood. :poke

      Tinter ruined my windshield ?

      I'm confused by your entire post. Forgive me, but the "black band" looks to still be there and cannot be removed actually. Also, the rear defroster cannot be removed and reinstalled. They may have meant that it may be damaged if film is removed to be retinted. But no one intentionally removes and replaces the defroster lines. Pure nonsense.

      Tinter ruined my windshield ?

      Just got tint put on my windows a few of days ago and noticed that the black band around the rear windshield is completely gone. The tint shop put in a disclaimer that for a “2014 BMW 528i they would have to remove and reinstall the rear defroster and are not responsible for any damages during that process” Has any one else ever had this problem before? I’m confused how this happened. Thanks

      At What VLT% does visibility start being impacted

      Yes, I'm aware that any level of tint reduces driver's visibility (part of the reason regulators impose maximum tint % is due to safety concerns), but my question is more regards any noticeable difference between VLT% & therefore subsequent increase in accident risk as a consequence when it comes to comparisons of the aforementioned tint %s. Given the government where I live don't allow anything darker than 35% in the front side, but allow 20% in the rear side and rear window, my presumption is that there's a noticeable difference between 35% and 20% in low visibility conditions (which makes me wonder why the rear window is allowed to be 20% and not 35%). But where does visibility impact start occurring? Is there a particular variance between VLT that the driver notices a perceivable difference (obviously this would differ between ever driver due to inherent individual characteristics, hence I'm wondering whether a study has ever been conducted on this)? For example: Would 35% be noticeably worse than 45% for driver's visibility in front side windows? Would 20% be noticeably worse than 33% for Rear side windows?

I'm wondering @ what VLT% does the driver's visibility in adverse conditions like night time driving, storms, cloudy weather, fog, floods, etc., start being impacted?
