Vinyl on matrix

Jay the problem with splicing it is, that both the film and vinyl will shrink. So in time you will end up have a light line where you made your splice

correct

I have spliced several using oracal's 951 series premium cast vinyl. This was when the body style first came out. so far, I have had 0 returns (I just jinxed myself ) and I do have one I see regularly that was done 6 years ago, and It is holding up fine. So far so good . I think the propensity of the vinyl shrinking is dependent on many many conditions , and the shrinkage over a 5 year period is negligible at best. IMHO

when you slice it are you slightly over lapping?

Yes. I am splicing it the same way you would splice a back window if you were tinting it. Now you guys have me worried about the future ....LOL

oh you can see these from the outside real easy because the tinter I'm talking about is a straight up hack ! how in the world he got a job tinting for that tint shop is beyond me..

I have seen relief cuts thats are real good and you can't see them for along time after installation,, but lets face it as the car(tint) heats up and cools down over a period of time it will start to seperate and show up

here is what I used to do with vinyl on the matrix.. Try it if you like, if not no harm no foul.. I cut the film right at the very bottom line of the dots on the inside.. Then I take the liner from the back window and use that to cut out a pattern for the vinyl. I put the liner right onto the vinyl and cut the vinyl about a 1/2 larger all the way around. This gives you just enough extra to not have to worry about repositioning it 15 times to get coverage but not so big that its hanging down too much. I have never once had a customer complain about the vinyl overlapping the film. Just make sure to explain to them why you used the vinyl in the first place and they will understand and be happy..
