Will Tinting cause my window to break?

I am looking at having a skylight/window tinted. It is configured so that beams will prevent the installation of the film on apart of the window. If a reflective film is used will there be a chance that the unequal heat on the window will cause the window to crack? If so, what is the magnitude of the risk over ten years for example?

Thanks!

There's always a risk of it when the full window can't be tinted however I've done several not in that application and never had an issue. No film manufacturer or tinter is going to warranty it if that does occur. Did they consider an exterior application?

No, but maybe I should suggest it. Thanks for your response!

👍 That would take out that risk only downside is most exterior film has around a 5 year life expectancy.

If you are going to use exterior film, look for a dealer that uses Hanita. Virtually every other MFR just slaps their AG coating on their solar film and calls it "exterior" ... And on a skylight it may last less than 3 years.
