Forgot how much of a pain in the ass the rear window is on the Chrysler PT Cruiser.  First attempt success with Xpel 15% XR ceramic.  Forgot to take some pics after install.

Well I guess you're not all bad after all.

I would recommend finding an old schooler running an independent shop that worked on these cars the first time around. Have the glass in place with the panels pulled. Remember to leave the switches on the front seat for operating the roll ups.

The new group of tinters can't seem to do anything that doesn't come off the precut software correctly. You are mostly right on that point.

The logic is that you have no idea what is easy and what is difficult when it comes to tinting...if you did, none of us would be having this ridiculous conversation.

Just curious...what vehicle EXACTLY are you wanting tinted???  Or is it still a secret???

I wouldn't even consider agreeing to tint ANY glass out of any vehicle without knowing what I'm up against.  The 80s have many, many not so nice vehicles to work on...even with the glass removed (it can actually make it more difficult in some cases).  No different, for example, if I was selling a vehicle but wouldn't list make, model, year and just say it has 4 doors and 4 tires...a vehicle is a vehicle, right?  I think you are being a little too paranoid thinking someone is going to rip you off lol.  Good luck.

If the part is even available....

Laying film when it's out of the car increases the difficulty by a factor of 5. Also increases the opportunity to damage it as well.

I've got a dollar that says he scratches the film before he gets it reinstalled...

Nobody really wants to work on old restorations. Half the time they are glued together without the right clips and the fabric/vinyl/leather is brittle with a fresh coat of dye that starts running as soon as it gets wet. Don't even get me started about the cardboard panel backers...

Sometimes you have to pay the cost to be the boss. This is one of those times.

Without sarcasm, yes the ceramic film is worth every penny.

    Another also...

Just because it is a Bentley doesn't automatically make it a more difficult tint job, and that Kia may just be a pain in the butt to tint.

Also, you used the example of a Kia and a Bentley, that it shouldn't matter...

You have to consider that mistakes happen and replacing a part on a Kia is a little less expensive that replacing a part on a Bentley.

We need to know what kind of car it is for several good reasons. Some cars are very easy, and take little time. Other cars require a high level of expertise and time. Both are priced accordingly.

Also some cars have issues that make them problematic to tint. We aren't trying to rip you off anymore than any other field.

This kind of customer can be found the world over.
Often, we can sense trouble before it even really starts. I mean, how many times have you had an enquiry asking how much it costs to tint a small car?
This kind of question sets alarm bells ringing as I realize this isn't just a run of the mill Camry that they own, but more likely something much more sinister: usually an Audi, a BMW or you guessed it, a Volvo, and not just any old Volvo, an XC60! (Substitute any other Euro-trash that you wish - I'm sure you get the point)
I immediately ask if they know what type of car they have.
Silence often follows for a few seconds until they realize they've been sprung.
"Yes" they admit. "Why wouldn't I know?"
I then explain that in order for me to quote the job, I need to know what I'm dealing with, and that I'd hate to over price them with a figure that's usually reserved for European cars, which are more difficult to tint than the average home-grown varieties.
"I have an A6 Audi" they confess, and I realize my spidey senses are still working, despite my grey hair and bulging beer belly.
"Oh well then" I say "That's good to know. I'll make sure that it isn't just one of the juniors that works on your vehicle. The cost is $550" (Did I mention that I work alone?)
At this point, they either want to book the job in or decide to call around for other prices.
I'm happy either way, not just because I did or didn't get a job worth doing, but because I hadn't been tricked into booking "one of those jobs" for next to nothing.

Actually got to work on my personal vehicle for once.  5% over the back, 20% on the fronts, 70% on the windshield and 35% on the pano roof.  Also tinted my rear taillights, third brake light as well as the front side headlight markers.
