It was reccomended somewhere around here to use a metal-halide fixture

for lighting in the shop.

I am here to tell ya'

that shizzle is BRIGHT

2 - 400 watt ( low bay) metal-halide high-intensity discharge lights

and some new flouresents to light up

the dark azz corner :dunno

and our favorite customer service sign :lol6

I think 115V was on the circuit in the cieling, with a switched leg

since it has taps up to 230 and 277V

it could pull 1/2 as much current if wired to 230

and save on high-$$$ power bills

Z-I have 2 of those in my shop at home-I think they are not high enough off the floor to work properly. :lol6 They are 9ft off the ground -and the light is concentrated in about a 8 ft circle! Unless your right under it-the light is not that great! I bought them because the shop at the local Dodge dealership has them and they are bright !But they are also about 20 ft up. :dunno I added some flourescent strips to brighten my shop! I was a little disappointed cause those bad boys were expensive!I think around 350 each! how tall is your shop? ss

FWIW the wattage does not change with the voltage. It will cost you the same to run no matter what voltage. 277 volts is a tapping off of 440 service.

I use to work in a motor shop a million years ago.

depends , if they asked the question and someone pointed to the sign

they dont say so much :inot

and several people still dont get it all :lol6 , even after explaining it to them :inot

that stupid sign was one of my very first totw candidates :lol2
