It amazes me today, how many “professionals” and “industry leaders” lack the aptitude for professional discourse concerning the quality of their product in an open venue. It seems the true implications of this post are lost on most.

It should go without saying we agree with Tintdude and his requests, it’s said this has to be said.

I was referring to an incident on our forum where one of our clients posted a review/rant on a film brand he was using. The company took notice of the post and began to "hassle" the individual. We decided to move the post to a private section and suggested other product reviews be posted in that section.

It is unfortunate that many reputable businesses simply do not understand the dynamics of, or how to learn from, an autonomous online forum. Most reviews that can be viewed as negative are not responded to by the business in question in the most appropriate manner. Good rebuttals involve exposing flaws in the others arguments by using facts like photographs, other more favorable reviews or simply stating you would like to work with the client to help resolve this and any other issue, all of which requires time and energy many business may not have or be willing to allocate.

Autonomous online discussions offer the public a chance to read unsolicited reviews and rebuttals so they may form their own opinions, without all the hype. Like wise, vendors learn what the client wants, to better service their industry's needs. It is much easier to fulfill an existing demand rather than trying to build demand for something the market may not want.

In the end, many people act different online and often post using a persona that is not consistent with their usual self, which is why it is important not to over emphasize the legitimacy of data posted by nearly anonymous people looking to engage in an e-war.

That is why when it comes to online forums you must always apply the "Second Law of Thermodynamics" which basically states that "all things in a closed system go from order to disorder and never return back to order again..." This law rules all online forums, including this one. :twocents
