1991 Camaro

Hey all,

I took on a project to see if I am ready or able to do it yet. It is an R & R of a, yep you guessed it 1991 Camaro. Well the removal went very well. Removal of purple hazy film is complete.

I attempted to shrink the backglass. I anchored across the middle and started attempting the mdog soap method. The shrink did not go well. I have read on here about not shrinking the camaro.

Seems to me one would have to but this is my first camaro. Anyway any advice on how you do a successful backglass of this car. The owner has no idea if it is factory glass or not.

Thanks all.

It's not a bad shrink for 1 piece..if your not comfortable doing it in 1 piece..use 2 pulls of a 20" roll splicing on the 7th heater wire. Make sure to cut the sides MUCH shorter or you'll get contamination from the heater wire bars.

Does it have defroster or not?

thanks for the replies so far. There are no defrost lines on the glass at all. I will give shrinking it in one piece another attempt this evening.

Would it be better to put the anchor higher or lower on the glass? I started my shrink in the lower middle and worked my way out. Seemed to go fine so started the top in the middle outward but the film started giving me smiley faces and would not lay down like I am used to seeing. Anyway, I am just trying to expand my abilities here. Doing well with most cars. Thought I would try something I had not done before when given the chance. I appreciate everyone's help.

thanks

I wouldn't recommend dry shrinking that car. I'd wet shrink it

def wet. I usually use a high anchor and not shrink the bottom at all, just sort of stretch it as I squeegee it out. and make sure to cut the sides pretty short like the others have said.

that back glass doesnt even require shrinking to apply in one pc. the bottom corners may try to lift early in the install but that window can be tinted without heat, just a little patience.

Definetly a one piece application. You can shrink the top dry first, then wet the window.Try to shrink the bottom fingers in the center area.If you can get all but bottom corners to lay down on the outside you are good to go.When you are installing the film work the bottom corners out last. You will need a turbo blade wide enough to move all film at once into the bottom corners.

if you do any shrinking with a dry tech then you will be shrinking more with the wet check than you would if you just do a wet shrink in the first place. Just put it on wet and lay it out. The most you should have on that window is 4 smaller fingers at the top......

try it you or you will never believe it....

wet shrink the newer camaros too just have a "pocket" where the dove tail rolls out.
