is it possible to handcut hoods/fenders?

Recommended Posts

any tricks to keeping a straightline. Maybe laying some thick tape to guide the cut.
If you are talking about the line across the top of the hood and fenders, cut them on a table using a yardstick before you install the film.

3M Class gave us a bunch of leftover film pieces and I worked a few nights just practicing cutting thru the clearcoat and not touching the wax paper on the back side. So cut a line, then pull the film off and look at the wax paper and see if you left a line...if you did you just cut the paint on somebodys car. I was quite shocked at how quickly the SS Olfa blade gets dull even on Film. Change the blade often and a VERY light touch will allow you to then pull the film apart where you scored it.

I like these for cutting on cars, they have a steeper angle with a longer point, its easier to see where the tip is on the film. Scoring is easy using just the weight of the knife, if you have to use pressure, snap a fresh tip. If you have trim to the paint, butt seam some scrap film where you plan to stop. That way if you run off the edge, you don't land on the paint.
