Some of you may already know, but I discovered heating very old tint with your heat gun to remove works much better than using a steamer. All you have to do is get the glass fairly hot and pull in a motion that keeps tension on the film(best to pull towards you not away). Most of the glue seems to come off with the film, rather than in pieces with the steamer. I also discovered that Purple Power is probably the best adhesive remover that I have found. Be careful with it though I've never had a problem, but a friend told me it can color change plastics, but don't know for sure. I hope this helps some of you fighting those strip and retints.. :twocents

:nohit: I did that before I had a steamer when it was raining when I couldn't sweat the film off and I think the steamer works tons better! But that's my opinion! If that works for you then keep doing it that way!

maybe it is my steamer, it's always spitting and sputtering, but seems to be really hot.. like that guy that bought his new steamer, I test it with my face to see if it's hot enough. :twocents

I got an old shark steamer and that thing is crazy spills and splatters everywhere :twocents .....I gotta have a regular shower towel around it to control the hot water! But it gets the job done.....im saving up some money from R&R to get the jiffy steamer that thing looks awesome and from what I hear on the forum it works great too.

that is essentially the same thing that happen with a steamer, only the steamer puts a lot of moisture into the film to help release the glue, and keep the film flexible so it doesn't rip apart. Maybe your not putting the steam on it for long enough?

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      Captain Obvious has two cents err senses to share: 1) The film should be removed and replaced, because it appears to have adhesive blemishes that shouldn't be there, and 2) The film should be reviewed/inspected once taken from the roll to avoid losing time and resources due to manufacturing issues. Little pieces not so much, but back glass and windscreen pieces ... definitely.

      I switched so long ago... first to KDS but they went away. NT are great though. I use a piece of white strapping material as a cutting buffer between the blade and glass. Some use a button but I didn't like the feel..

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      I can't win with getting tint decent on the windshield. I had 3M on my F150 done twice and still has major defects. Recently did Stratos twice on my F350 and I see this granular spotted, texture pattern on the tint. It's super obvious in the corner here but also right in my view when driving. It's honestly hard to point out and show someone but when your driving and stuff is moving behind the windshield, it becomes more obvious. The lighting also matters. The first time I did the windshield, I had a two foot line on the windshield. Thinking it was tint, they removed the tint and it was apparently a defect in the Ford windshield. An issue between the laminated glass layers caused this big defect. So they removed the tint, I had Ford replace the windshield on a 2024 F350 but when the tint shop removed the tint, they made a bunch of micro scratches in the front windshield, probably from scrapping the glue off. I told them but I didn't care since Ford was replacing the windshield anyways. So if basically I'm trying to figure out what this texture stuff is and if I should have them replace or remove it. Replacing it might just have different issues but also afraid they will scratch the windshield.

      Need some help

      Never overlook the condition of the floor. Back when I did install, I used to mist the floor between the vehicle and the peel board. This is done between misting the window and walking toward the peel board to mist the pattern liner, peel liner and spray adhesive for install. Tacks any dust for the duration of each pattern install, so repeat each time a pattern is going to be installed.
