Ok I will be opening a shop next month. WIll be doing window tinting on cars but need some clarification.

between Llumar and suntek, which one is better in price and quality?

also since I am just starting I don't have money to pay someone hourly, but I heard from some local shops that people are getting pay by commision. Now I heard that there is a table of commision for window tinting, is that true?

also how much percentage is good to pay someone for helping around the shop to tint a car?

what are the levels of tint you recommend in getting?

tough economy in a city with a ton of established competition . a good exp comm. tinter is gonna know to stay away . if you cant tint I'd think about something else . you are gonna need roughly enough capital to run for 3 years before ya really start to see a return . this comes from exp , I tried in Hudson a couple years ago . I'm now in Ocala ! and I've been doing it 20yrs .... best of luck ...

One thing I wish I knew in the begining, is that you have to "hussle" to make real money in this business. Definelty not the get rich quick with little effort biz.

Your gonna have to learn to tint, b/c when your tinter walks out, you'll be the one to step in. It seems everydays somenone want to open a shop before they even know how to tint.

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      I can't win with getting tint decent on the windshield. I had 3M on my F150 done twice and still has major defects. Recently did Stratos twice on my F350 and I see this granular spotted, texture pattern on the tint. It's super obvious in the corner here but also right in my view when driving. It's honestly hard to point out and show someone but when your driving and stuff is moving behind the windshield, it becomes more obvious. The lighting also matters. The first time I did the windshield, I had a two foot line on the windshield. Thinking it was tint, they removed the tint and it was apparently a defect in the Ford windshield. An issue between the laminated glass layers caused this big defect. So they removed the tint, I had Ford replace the windshield on a 2024 F350 but when the tint shop removed the tint, they made a bunch of micro scratches in the front windshield, probably from scrapping the glue off. I told them but I didn't care since Ford was replacing the windshield anyways. So if basically I'm trying to figure out what this texture stuff is and if I should have them replace or remove it. Replacing it might just have different issues but also afraid they will scratch the windshield.

      Need some help

      Never overlook the condition of the floor. Back when I did install, I used to mist the floor between the vehicle and the peel board. This is done between misting the window and walking toward the peel board to mist the pattern liner, peel liner and spray adhesive for install. Tacks any dust for the duration of each pattern install, so repeat each time a pattern is going to be installed.

      Olfa blades are not as sharp as they used to be

      Yeah, at least a decade ago rumored to be different as a result of a US based manufacturer making Olfa blades sold here at home. Of course, Olfa would deny coupling up with a US maker. I, too, switched to NT.

      We have been using olfa blades forever but in the past year we have noticed the quality of the blades is not the same as it used to be. Blades are not as sharp and pressing harder is starting to etch the glass on certain vehicles. Would like to know if anyone else is experiencing this or is there a better brand ss blades that you have been using that is a better trusted brand.

      Help Needed! - Graphtec FC4100-75 - Software/Compatibility/Drivers/Communication/Blades/Setup

      Bump on this. I spoke with Film & Vinyl Design and the rep told me their cutting software contains the drivers for the Graphtec 4100 models. They also mentioned it will work with Windows 11. Any one have experience with this program, good or bad things to say about it?

      Need some help

      Push out all the air you can then… Heat up area with heat gun and use a hard card to press them down while everything is still fresh… don’t over heat prep work is key… you can also use masking tape on the gaskets and carefully peel the tape out once you have all the fingers out

      Canadian Tinter Looking for work in US

      35 years old. Over 10 years in the field doing automotive tint and ppf. Currently managing / working as main installer in Edmonton, Alberta. Xpel/Suntek, DAP/Core experience. Long story short, Canada became boring and i would want to give US a shot. Love what i am doing, getting paid well for where i am but i know i can do more & its hard to jump higher than your head where i am. if there are shops that are willing to provide i good Canadian installer a job offer i would like to talk. P.S. Would love to be in the place that is busy year round.
