Finding Tint Percentage Factoring in Factory Tint.

Recommended Posts

use a tint meter, or the formula would be something like .70x.35 (If using 35%) most factory class will be .70-.74 If you are trying to mutiply factory tint, just mutilply the film you used by .18-.20

If it is 70 factory glass and 40% film, that would be 28% after film is applied?

Sounds about right, I'm getting 37% with the 50% we are using, depending on the factory glass of course. I'm seeing a variance of about 4-5% in factory glass.

With this being the case, simply multiplying .70 X .50 is giving an approximate answer. I wasn't sure if it was as simple as that.

The only way you will know for sure is to meter each film at least on 5 different vehicles..For instance suntek carbon 38 meters 33-34 on glass, cxp45 meters 33-34, standard pro 40 meters 33-35 and hp35 meters 31-34 on glass. Only way to know for sure is test each film you plan on using.

Check out this great thread from EWF on meter math:

Thanks TD that's what I was looking for.

The straight math never gets it exact because of light infraction. Buy and use a good meter :twocents

Hey man, where did you go on facebook? You get tired of the daily drama?
