Three months ago sent in quote to owner of site and get a P.O 

The plans+ specs  say film is  " by owner,owner supplied ,owner installed"

 

Building is up and ready for film.

Scheduling calls and GC says ok ready to go.

Next day installer shows up and is turned away by GC because the "film is deleted".

 

Emails to owner "hey whats going on " see above.

Lots of Ccing and people getting on it adding

 

Nope no film,

 

Yes there is film ,

Nope

Yup

Nope

Yup

Nope

Yes the GC already did it.

All this in the last 5 days 3 if you take out the weekend

 

WTF

 

Here's your bill for our wasted time and material we would have used.

We get jobs on a regular basis that say " film to be chosen by arcehict " .....then they want to know how much without identifying the material. ...a couple months ago we showed up for a 2500 sf CS DC job that was priced for a 60" band AFF. The day we got there, they changed it to a 8" band 40" AFF.... They paid the same price.

One of my favs from last year was Full coverage 36" x 102" then a 72" band then 60" then 48" see where this is going...... 36",..... 24" finally ended up at 2"  odd shaped vision dots on 6" c's

 

Was 3 floors and around 200 lites.

 

" Why is this only 10% off? we didn't even use 10% of the material"

 

"Well Mr  Designer Sir You chose  Special Order non returnable  material despite us telling you about other cheaper, similar looking and returnable options  and then add the production and design costs for your custom vision dots cut in the special order film. Then add the 6  Individual "minimum charge" trips for each "test" install after a P.O . was issued for the original full coverage.

At no time did you ask what or if there was a  cost difference  during the process of reducing the film coverage. I can only guess that you made some assumptions.

Please, in the future request up to 3 options for the design and we will give you the prices up front."

 

This designer has used us many times after this and ALWAYS asks for 3 design options BEFORE the P.O's are issued.

 

Sometimes lessons are expensive.

Our last potw with the 6" vertical stripes, was a complete pita. The designer originally drew it showing 6" stripes and 6" clear. She never took into account that the glass was all different widths and the layout would put strips over the joints. We show it to her and it was re drawn but that made it another trip there for us. .. Her newest idea is to do 2" stripe, 2" clear 3" stripe 3" clear etc. all the way up to a 12" stripe/ clear then repeat. .... Ummmm, yes ma'am that costs more than just filming the entire window.....
