jj
Hey slingers, we have some 20+ year old tint to remove and replace. Usually we would just hack away with SS blades, I was wondering if the carbon or heavy duty in the triumph range are any better at keeping their sharp edge for longer? Tint Eastwood
The added risk of scratching doesn't seem worth it to go with the carbon steel, even though it will likely keep a better edge. Never tried the heavy duty blades but I would assume they are just heavier gauge, so what you gain in durability you'll likely lose in overall sharpness. Personally I'd just grab a couple extra packs of regular SS triumphs and go animal on it.
TomTint
We actually use carbon ones every day. Only time we ever scratched glass was on grainy tempered, which would scratch with SS as well. Old DA film will eat triumph blades pretty quick regardless which ones you use. PS is usually pretty easy. On tough DA removal jobs, we have used 4" scrapers with metal handles for leverage. Those also tend to gunk up and dull fairly quick. Tint Eastwood
I don't trust carbon blades. We change out way too many panes that have been scratched by contractors or painters trying to clean the glass. The only common denominator in each case was the type of blade used
WearTheFoxHat
I use 4" Ungers on film removal projects and save the Triumph for the final clean and for nekkid glass cleaning. Your mileage will vary but 4 to 20 square feet per blade. With some types of film the blade will go longer.

Thirtyfive
I understand the theoretical behind the carbon blades scratching, but I honestly think the only advantage to ss blades are they will take longer to rust. IMO all blades will scratch if used incorrectly and all blades won't scratch if used correctly

Epic.Tint
I did 3 big removals in the last 2 weeks and I've always used the carbon. I decided to get the SS to see if they're better and they were only good for the initial film removal as it catches the film nicer. Also I put the scraper on a 3' metal pipe the is used for running electrical wires. But when it comes to scraping glue the carbon goes a lot longer.
