Factory laminated glass that has oem solar coatings require a certain edge border to remain sealed and not have the fancy coating fail due to corrosion. The factory edges I have been measuring on the Mercedes line have been 3/8". The tight tint edges looks better to me though.

IMO window film still only looks good on a car when the windows are rolled all the way up. A little bit of a gap isn't going to kill anyone.

Haha. I don't know if it's normal, every shop is different. We go all the way to the edge of the glass where I work. Should you ask for a redo? I don't know, its totally up to you!
