I found a pretty useful technique to take the brakelight out w/out removing any panels...

after taking off the 2 screws from the underside of the light (sorry I have no pics) I pop the light loose, usually just pulling on it, or wedge a squeegee underneath it...but ofcourse the lightbulb tab is too long to let the light housing come out of the back panel.

this is where skinny fingers come in handy - there are 2 holes underneath the panel that allow some access to the lightbulb, just large enough to fit a finger in each hole (hopefully).

I turn the lightbulb tab loose and pull it out from the underside in the trunk, allowing the brakelight housing to pull freely from the panel.

now for the comprimise

in order for everything to fit back in, I cut the tab off of the bottom of the lightbulb. it is useless and gets in the way, and is an easy fix that takes no time compared to taking about the panel.
