My first vehicle wrap

I've been thinking about getting into the market of vehicle wrapping so I decided to test my skills by starting on my own car. The car is a 2006 Laser Blue Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharger. The wrap is black with a silver metalic pinstripe. The entire install took me about 12 hours total , 6 hours in 2 days. I'm extremly pleased with the results. I didn't mess up one piece nor did I create any creases or trap any dirt (much better than I can say about my tinting, :thumb ). I used Oracal 651 gloss black 24". Everything is in one piece except the roof is in 2 pieces spliced right up the middle, you can't even tell unless your right up on it rubbing your finger across it. Honestly though, I'm not sure how long this will last here in Michigan weather but I'll find out soon enough. I probably should have used 751 but I had 651 in stock when I had the idea and I wanted to start it right away and not have to wait for 751 to get shipped to me :P

Went out and took some close ups.

As you can see all my edge lines are hidden either under rubber seals, inside body lines or under the silver metallic pin stripe.

Unless you open a door, hood, or trunk, it seriously looks like a paint job. I'm quite proud of myself :P

NOW.... weather or not it will look this good after this upcomming winter? Who knows... But I'm sure gonna find out.

Good luck with that, carbon fiber vinyl doesn't stretch like the colored stuff, it's highly metalized.... Doesn't mean it can't be done, it's just gonna be abitch...

hrmmm didnt think of that. I have some avery carbon fiber that was just printed stuff. It stretches just like regular vinyl when I did my dash trim pieces.

I'm also gonna try and do my hood in carbon fiber but I'm gonna get the carbon fiber from Rtape efx and see how that works.

      South facing windows DR film

      Install went great. I went with NV-25, I am very happy. The room has been darkened significantly, from bright and hot to much more pleasant and enjoyable. Watching TV during the day is no longer blinding, when it is cloudy it is definitely a bit gloomy, I am glad I did not go with NV-15. I plan on getting more windows done in the future to help cut down on heat energy. Thanks for everyone's input!

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      Captain Obvious has two cents err senses to share: 1) The film should be removed and replaced, because it appears to have adhesive blemishes that shouldn't be there, and 2) The film should be reviewed/inspected once taken from the roll to avoid losing time and resources due to manufacturing issues. Little pieces not so much, but back glass and windscreen pieces ... definitely.

      I switched so long ago... first to KDS but they went away. NT are great though. I use a piece of white strapping material as a cutting buffer between the blade and glass. Some use a button but I didn't like the feel..

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      I can't win with getting tint decent on the windshield. I had 3M on my F150 done twice and still has major defects. Recently did Stratos twice on my F350 and I see this granular spotted, texture pattern on the tint. It's super obvious in the corner here but also right in my view when driving. It's honestly hard to point out and show someone but when your driving and stuff is moving behind the windshield, it becomes more obvious. The lighting also matters. The first time I did the windshield, I had a two foot line on the windshield. Thinking it was tint, they removed the tint and it was apparently a defect in the Ford windshield. An issue between the laminated glass layers caused this big defect. So they removed the tint, I had Ford replace the windshield on a 2024 F350 but when the tint shop removed the tint, they made a bunch of micro scratches in the front windshield, probably from scrapping the glue off. I told them but I didn't care since Ford was replacing the windshield anyways. So if basically I'm trying to figure out what this texture stuff is and if I should have them replace or remove it. Replacing it might just have different issues but also afraid they will scratch the windshield.
