UPDATE

I did some work for a Coast Guard guy yesterday; he assures me that there are CG regulations concerning film on commercial and recreational vessels. He is supposed to get me copies of these regulations this week...

I will post the results as soon as I get them ...

Here's what the Coast Guard sent me today; it aint much, but here it is:

He also told me that it could be looked up by searching for CFR 46 177.1030

[Title 46, Volume 7]

[Revised as of October 1, 2005]

From the U.S. Government Printing Office via GPO Access

[CITE: 46CFR177.1030]

You da MAN, Cajun. :rollin I knew it was in the CFR, but couldn't find it on short notice!! Thanx!!! Beers on me.

This applies to ALL Gov't vessels, and to any private US registered/documented vessel engaged in commerce.

You did this on the "Bridge" Of a Coastie boat? HorseHockey!!! The 5" strip I MIGHT buy (still technically illegal), but 35% on any window adjacent to the windshield :thumb:rollin . ESPECIALLY on a gov't vessel!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does that mean that those rules do not apply to pleasure craft?? :thumb

To my knowledge, no they do not. Back in the Keys, I ran a charter boat P/T, and owned a tint shop full time. I remember when they started enforcing the rules on commercial vessels, but never heard of a private vessel being ticketed, and believe you me, between the Dept of Natural Resources, Fla Fish & Game, FDLE, and the Coasties boarding vessels just LOOKING for violations, I would DEFINATELY have heard about it.
