Andersen casements? How old are they?

I believe they had an 86 on them.

The late 70,s early 80's Andersens were called bulb units, they did not have any expansion joint and were about 5/16 thick total. If these are those..... They will break.

Not entirely true, did a house about a year ago with them. They already had film installed, had it for approx. 8-9 years, only one glass had failed, and one my helper broke from scraping. Out of like 48. The ones you are referring to are the ones that are actually a blown glass with no rubber seal, right?

Entirely true. If the window does not have a expansion joint....it will break. The expansion joint can be seen around the edge in between the two panes. It will either look like a zipper or it will look like bead of silicone rubber. The old Andersen bulb units were a continuous rounded edge of sealed glass that was 3/16 thick ea/surface.....you film them.....they will break.

hmm...guess the 47 panes that were filmed for close to ten years were a fluke then. :dunno

Theory sounds correct but the reality proved different at least for this situation.....
