Wearing safety gloves while installing 4mil

Recommended Posts

We did work at a nuclear power plant. They required steel toe boots, hard hats, safety glasses and cut resistant gloves. And a 1.5 hour safety course before we started... Hanging film with gloves is like picking your nose while wearing mittens. It just does not work. The safety officer ended up excluding the gloves by filing a report saying we were a specialty contractor and we required special dextarity with our hands, that gloves would inhibit.

same scenario on a couple of jobs only they still , (at the threat of sending me off the job) said one hand had to be gloved while using a triumph to scrape.

They make me feel sooooooo safe. :D

In our RAMS (Risk and method statements) we include that "Operatives are to wear gloves on site at all times when loading and unloading of materials and when moving to and from location of work. Gloves are then to be removed when installing the film as the use of gloves inhibit the installer during the installation of window film/graphics. Extra care is to be taken to avoid injury when using knifes and scraper blades, if injury occurs, site accident book is to be filled in by injured party.

We have worked in some very strict places MOD sites, Oil refineries and Steel works etc where H+S is crazy and they have no problem with it, as long as you access the risk and take measures to mitigate them and include them in your risk and method statements the H+S man is ok, as his butt his covered and that's what it is all about, he does not want the blame.

Have had to wear hard hats and googles working in an already finished and occupied space just 5' away from a woman just sitting at her desk working.  Because the GC said so. Because their insurance company told them we had to.

And have had to tie off to work on windows on the INSIDE of a building because it was single pane glass and the safety engr said we might break the glass and go flying out.

But have been able to convince the GC we can't provide a reasonable level of workmanship while wearing gloves.
